I have been looking for a decent .243 and found a good deal on a Ruger bolt action w/the Boss System and I don't have any instructions on how to use this system. Does anyone know where I could get some literature on how to use this to "tune" my rifle to particular ammo. Also, has anyone used the boss system on other rifles and had good luck w/it? I'd appreciate any feedback you could give me.

Thanks.

See if a gun-store guy will let you read the instructions in a packet with a Boss-equipped rifle he has in stock. He might even be able to let you make a copy.

For all I know, there might be something at a Browning website...

Ruger with a Boss???

Howdy,

That sounds like a rare gun you found! Somebody must have grafted the "Boss" from a Browning or a Winchester. You could check on the Browning website and download an owners manual. I'm not sure if the settings will work on your gun. Not sure of the barrel length etc. The numbers are a starting point for you to "Dial in" a factory load.

Good luck....check Browning's website!

Redsnake. Are you sure it is a Boss system, and not a QUE? There is an aftermarket outfit that makes a Boss type system named QUE. It should adjust in clicks. This is how the QUE works. Screw the device in all the way until it stops. If it is a QUE, when you unscrew it all the way, there should be 100 clicks. Count them all the way out, and back in to be sure of the count. The unscrew it until you reach 50 clicks. Sight the rifle in at that point. Then either screw it in 10 click, or out 10 clicks and see if accuracy improves. If not, go back 10 and do 10 more in the opposite direction. This should give you the direction you need to go to find the best accuracy.
I don't have one of these gizmos on my gun, but a shooting buddy has several, and wants to put them on every rifle he owns.
Anyway, whether it's a QUE or a Boss, that should get you started on the road to accuracy.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
