Just Picked up my First Varminter.

Hi all, names Erik. I just picked up my first Varmint rifle the other day. It's a Remington 700 VLS chambered in .22-250. I've yet to actually shoot it, but hopefully tomorrow I can send some down range. I own another 700, a BDL in 7mm Mag and love it. So i imagine I'll really enjoy the new one.

Just wanted to see if anybody else had one of these, or had any problems out of them. Also what rounds they preferred to shoot (factory, I don't have reloading equipment).

I have one in 223 and love it.

Great guns and it should be a shooter. Mine prints .411" at 100 yards for 5 shots.

For factory loads I would look at Hornady.
 
I just picked up a 700 VLS in 6mm Rem. Will start loading for it this weekend. I also have had a 700 VL SS thumbhole in 204 Ruger for not quite 2 years now. Love it so much that when I saw this 6mm I scarfed it right up. I'm a 6mm fan anyway. Anxious to see what a 55 grainer at 4000+ fps will do to a gopher.;)
 
I have a rem 700 VSSF in 22-250 and have been very happy with the rifle and caliper,I also shoot a rem 700 bdl in 7mm rem mag excellent round!

uncyboo that VLS in the 6mm rem is quite the find!...I have a rem 700 bdl in the 6mm rem,I really like that cartridge specially with a noslers 55 gr. ballistic tip or a 95 gr. nosler partition.

Was on the used rack at the Billings Cabela's. Barrel code I think is 1998. Looks like it just came out of the box. Not a ding in the stock, no blueing worn, not even at the muzzle. Trigger is heavy and creepy so it appears no one has ever adjusted it. It sure doesn't look like it's been fired much. And price was right at $565.....
 
I have a VLS in 223 and it is a tack driver 50 to 55 gr bullets, The triggers are very heavy ( I call them lawyer triggers) but the rifle is great.

Congratulations on the 22-250, you will love it. Only problem with a 22-250 is that now you have to listen to 220 Swift owners telling you how much better theirs is . . .:rolleyes:
 
This is what it printed at 120 yards Monday afternoon, I think I could've done better. I was shooting prone with a bi-pod. I still need to work on my breathing and trigger pull. My fourth shot tracked right because I jerked. It's definitely more accurate than I am. I was shooting Winchester White box 45 gr. hp. (it loves those)

Bought that same rifle 5 years ago.

Bought a box of Win supreme 50gr noslers and the first 3 shots all touched at 100yds.

Killed many ground hogs and coyotes since then with 50gr vmax handloads.

I bought the vlss a couple years later also in the Varminter round. It's another tack driver.

The vls will be my sons when he is big enough. He is only 6 so he still has a while.
 
I have an older VLS in .223, and it really shoots. One of my favorite rifles, and normally the rifle that I use to introduce new shooters to our world. The factory stock is about as good as it gets for a "one size fits most" comfort level and the trigger breaks like a glass rod at 2 lbs. This one stays pretty close to the front of the safe. Wish I had more than one.
 
yea my trigger has no creep at all... and I'm not sure what the weight is, but it's definitely lighter than my other 700. I guess I'll have to find out.
 
My vls trigger was a little heavy. Adjusted it to perfection.

The vlss is slighty heavy but not so heavy that I ever bothered adjusting it.
