Just picked up a Jungle Carbine!!!!!

I just picked up an Original No5 Mk I Jungle carbine, lightening cuts and all for $229. The stock has a few dings, though at least on my gun it has pretty good figure, kind of like Turkish walnut, and is coated in some lacquer so I am assuming these are the new century import guns. My advice to you, tomorrow morning, gets one. Mine has 99% bluing (only a little worn on the bolt), all matching numbers, the bluing isn't even worn off the bolt completely, I’d say 60% of it is still there! Bluing bolt wear seems to happen fairly fast(complete by 900 rounds) on Enfields I’ve seen worked from new so this gun has way less than 500 rounds through it since it's refit. It has a 1945 stamp on the receiver, a micrometer type sight set to 800 meters, and this is the best part, the bore and chamber are so clean and fresh that I can see the reflection of the rifling on the chamber walls when the barrel is held up to the light. Believe it or not there was tied to it by a piece of plastic, a recipe, or at least a partial one for something with fruit and eggs in it was tied to the gun, Hmm maybe it was a chefs gun or something during the war? This is a truly outstanding gun that would have brought in a premium approaching $500 bucks (less the import marking) just a few months ago. I haven’t had a chance to shoot it yet so I cannot comment on accuracy or the appearance of the dreaded “wandering zero” the forehand is quite loose so I suspect that will throw off accuracy, I plan to glass bed and free float it at my nearest convenience.

on second thaught it might be a crime against humanity if i were to work on such a nice example of a jungle carbine, what do you guys think, should i use it for a shooter or keep it for a collector(of dust) and sell it when the prices go up again?

definitely shoot it! and you could do the bedding anyway and tighten it up a bit. OK it wouldn't be totally original, but if it is from century it probably isn't as it was issued anyway and it wouldn't be noticable unless taken apart.

I shot it and boy can it SHOOT! putting 50 rounds thru it i found that in my case 'wandering zero' is actually the flinch developed shooting the thing. My first few shots were perfect, sights set dead on the flip up, the battle sight shot a bit high though(I only shoot at 200 yards) I suspect it is regulated to 300(meters) though. Accuracy was in the 3" range at 200 yards, then around round seven i started shooting flyers that were a foot or more to the left, and some hit too high, . puzzled, or rather disgusted i figured the gun was useless, I set it down and proceded to shoot my relitively mild kicking long barreled 8mm mauser, and it hurt like heck! Confused, i took off my shirt and i noticed the bright blue bruse developing on my shoulder and i decided that it must kick a bit (must have had too much adrenaline to notice before). After shooting again trying to ignore recoil as much as possable, i fired the remaining 40 rounds or so, and they all went where i aimed them. Recoil is somewhere between a .308 out of an eight pound gun and a remington 3" magnum slug load out of a light weight pump. Moral of the story, my shoulder hurts, my neck is stiff, but my rifle is deadly accurate. Buy one if you dare.
