Just ordered HS Precision stock; any words of wisdom?

Ordered a HS precision stock (PST012) for my 700 SPC tactical .308. Debated with myself back and forth between this one and the B&C offerings.. .bleh. Now it's done, and in the mail.

The need for the upgrade was clear as a bell; the hogue was so flimsy. Last time out, I used a bag about 6" forward of the trigger guard and shot much better. Bipod was forcing contact between barrel and stock, even after some work with the dremel.

Anywho.. any words of wisdom for these stocks, other than making sure the action screws are tight? I'm getting anxious to shoot again; sent the bolt to Badger last week for a knob installation, and ordered some federal sierra game king 165 gr. She should be going back together late next week (I hope). Hoping that it shoots close to as accurate as the 168 SMK I've been playing with. (Daddy wants some meat this winter).

Thanks guys,

I'll never knowingly give any of my money to HS Precision.

From what I understand, at the recent NRA show, all the other booths were busy and the HS Precision booth was empty.

I'd rather take a piece of construction lumber and whittle my own stock rather than use an HS Precision product.

This has to be the quote of the week. (LOLOLOLOLOL) Still can/t stop laughing. LOL

Do I sense a little hostility there?

Jim

I have to ask this question...

...what other products that were on the H-S Precision stocked rifle will you not use?
Leupold?
Harris?
What about the boots/gloves/safety glasses/ etc. in use at the time?
Anything else?

I know many people have commented on 'why' they won't use the H-S product, but really...how far can you go with this?

Not being hostile, just asking where you draw the line.

It's not the products, nor how they were used. A product is simply a piece of fiberglass or aluminum or metal that is fashioned in some manner for resale. It's not the product's fault.

And that's not what the kerfluffle is about. The kerfluffle stems from the endorsement that HS Precision printed on their catalog. In the 2008 product catalog, HS Precision was so insensitive as to use an endorsement from Lon Horiuchi, touting their products as the best available. The rifle world and outdoor trades exploded over the endorsement and lots of folks (myself included) wrote to HS Precision expressing our outrage. HS Precision responded by simply saying that they were changing their policy to never use product endorsements.

Part of the problem is that they were so arrogantly insensitive that they would include an endorsement from Horiuchi in their product catalog. The other part of the problem is that they didn't immediately apologize for their unbelievable insensitivity. They didn't repent, nor are they apologetic. They simply quit using endorsements.

If Walther used an endorsement from Heinrich Himmler, I'd quit using Walther products. If Ruger used an endorsement from Michael Platt, I'd quit using Ruger products. It's not how the product was used, it's how the company uses the endorsements.

I'll never knowingly give any of my money to HS Precision.

Sorry, WWWJD. :o

I've got stocks by all 3 companies you mentioned and each works fine for the application I use them for.

I think you'll be happy with your new H-S Precision stock.
:)

I have three H&S Precision stocked rifles and love them all. Two are on tactical rifles and the other is on my primary hunting rifle, all are Remington 700's. I have had nothing but great results with them and their customer service was great when I had questions about ordering the stock for my hunting rifle. I have also used H&S Precision stocks on my work rifle and literally trust my life to them. They are solid, durable, and hold zero great. I keep mine torqued down to spec and dont have any issues. The H&S stock on my hunting rifle improved the consistency of and cut the groups in half over the factory synthetic stock. Congratulations on your purchase and hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

You shouldn't see any POI change between the 165 GK and 168 MK if you are staying under ~400 yards. I'm sure a ballistic program jocky will chime in at some point with specific drop data. I use the 165 and it performs very well on deer.

That's what I was guessing/hoping. I'd like to find a bullet that performs well enough that I can use it as a benchmark for developing my own multi-purpose load, mostly target and sometimes hunting. I figure once I find something the rifle likes, I probably won't experiment too much unless something gets discontinued down the road. The way things are shaping up for the family farm, I don't think I'll ever get an opportunity to go beyond the 400 yard line.. so we'll see.

I've got one on a savage 10fcp. Its well made, the shape is very natural. Holds well. Only thing, wish there was a cut out on the bottom for my support hand. But I like it alot.
