Man, those Brownings just seem to glow! Does anyone make synthetic stocks, etc, so I can put this beautiful wood away somewhere safe when I am in the woods? Also, it came with a nice scope, but I don't usually use a scope. Where do I get a good peep or ghost ring that will just screw into the same holes as the scope mount?

i'v been hunting w/ my modle 81 in 308 for 13 years. i just bought one in 243 for my daughters. you cant beet lever speed, browning reliability and quality and mag fed ability to use pointed rounds.

Jack,

Don't bother with those ugly noisy synthetic stocks. Use the Browning issued walnut.

In twenty years I'll bet you can sit down and talk all evening to your grandkids about where and how each and every scratch and dent came to be. They won't marr the beauty of the stock, they will give it character. They will show that this is a working rifle that has put meat on the table, and a valued tool, not that it just sat in a vault looking pretty.

The Ashley aperture will screw into the rear holes. Unfortunately, it sits high (mine does), which makes it hard to get a good cheek weld, and requires a really high front blade. It looks spindly and awkward (but it works).

Doc, you are probably right, I guess there is no point in having that nice wood if it isn't on the rifle!

Jeff, I hear a lot about the Ashley sight (naturally, considering who some of it's proponents are, but I have never used one. I'll do some web searching and see what I can find.

Thanks.
