I just picked up (well put on Layaway) a Ruger Bisley .44mag, blued, 7 1/2" barrel...I found it in the used section but I'd guess it might have been shot once, 98% condition, one small rub mark on the ejector rod housing where the blueing was worn, looks like from a holster, everythings nice and tight, $350 w/case and all original paperwork, lock etc.....Decent deal?...It's my first .44 and first single action, I've shot plenty of .44's in other people's guns, all modern style double actions...How are these things recoil wise? The 629 mountain gun in .44 was a handful, but I've also put quite a few rounds through a .44 Super Redhawk, not bad at all in my opinion....

They are pretty good revolvers. I have heard complaints about broken transfer bars and that is true. The only thing I think you should do is slug the barrel bore. That will tell you what diameter bullets to use for best accuracy. Ruger has had bores vary widely. I have seen .427, .429 and one .431 bore. A Belt Mountain locking basepin is a worthy addition to a Ruger 44. The Bisley is a nice grip shape. Local prices are $429.00. You did well.

Unfortunatly I dont re-load (yet) so I'm kind of limited to factory loadings....The locking basepin, Is that something I can doe easily myself?

As compared to where I live, you got a good price.

I hear the Bisleys are easier on teh recoil than the traditional plow handle grips. I've got a 7.5" Super Blackhawk with the plow handle grips and it's pretty easy shooting with standard factory 240-grain loads.

I just converted a 4 3/4" SS SBH to a Bisley. I went to the range and fired several boxes of full-house 300 gr (~1300 fps). The difference in both how the gun treats my hand and the degree of control is really significant. Enjoy the new gun.
