I just bought a Colt 1991 Combat Commander (too darn cheap to pass up) and now I am tossing about the idea of selling an unfired SA Loaded and picking up a Colt 1991 Government before the rebate expires. I'm not losing any sleep over it, just thinking about it. I know the Springfield is more "tricked out" but from what I understand, Colt is putting out some nice guns these days.

Anyway, just for fun, what would you do? I figure the Colt's tend to hold their value pretty well over the years.

Well, the XSE is considerably more than the 1991 Government. I can get it for $699 plus a $100 rebate to boot. The XSE looks nice though.

I can't answer your question. Your choice of keeping the SA also unfairly slams the Colt. Maybe you should keep the SA because it has some of "features" you want which the Colt doesn't, like a beavertail grip and better sights.

I agree with this. I think the Colt is a great deal these days at $700 + Shipping + Transfer - $100 rebate.

I got out the door at about $630 after rebate!

All that said I would keep the SA. If it runs and has no issues. It is a good gun.

You have your Colt, in the Commander, so I wouldn't trade a more "usable" gun like a loaded Springfield for another basic Colt.
I had a Springfield Mil-Spec .38 Super, and essentially traded it in on a Colt 1991 Super, but they are very similar guns.

I don't see that at all. Two different guns for sure, but keeping one doesn't slam the other. I never mentioned any features that I wanted or didn't want as either gun would suffice for range duty.

I voted that you keep it, simply due to the fact that you're gaining 0 in quality and giving up alot in terms of several genuine enhancements. However....that doesn't necessarily mean that I believe Colts are 'over rated'. Are you willing to foresake all of those upgrades so you can see 'COLT' rollmarked on the slide? Speaking from a bit of experience.....I'd keep the Springfield and if later on you still just HAVE to have a Colt......trade in the loaded for a newer XSE. Do I think the XSE is 'better' than the Springfield??? Possibly, but you're REALLY splitting hairs!

Nothing wrong with SAs although they are not my 1911 of choice.

I prefer the XSE Colt to almost any 1911 excepting a Dan Wesson.

My $.015.
