Just finished Marine Sniper

Try "War of the Rats". It's about top snipers dueling in Stalingrad, WWII.

I've really enjoyed: "One Shot-One Kill" (history of snipers), "Master Sniper" and "Platoon". I prefer books by VN chopper pilots as I wanted to be one but chose life instead.
Now after reading Marine sniper you should watch the video of Carlos Hathcock.
Then when you read Elmer Keith/s laborious "Hell I was There" you'll want to throw all your scopes away :D

I am in awe of the late Gunny Hathcock's discipline! Who else could belly-crawl for two days to within 600yds of a general's house -- miles behind enemy lines, pick him off with one shot, then make a clean getaway?

The 600 yard shot alone would be enough; but to stalk to within that distance, then lay there on the ground with bugs and critters crawling all over you, biting and stinging you all over, p!ssing and sh!tting in your pants for days, -- and then make a one-shot kill at 600 yards, retreat through a quarter-mile of open ground and still avoid detection is a hell of a feat.

And that was just one of his many feats!

I wish I could have met the man!

Awesome, simply awesome!

mcshot,

My boss at work was a chopper pilot in Nam. He still wears a Huey tie-tack! Crazy!

Crazier yet is the guy I work next to. He was Air Cav. He volunteered(!) to be a door gunner just so he could shoot back rather than just sit there and take the small arms fire! He had started out as a radio operator but then found that the VC would aim for him first since he had that seven-foot antenna sticking up to mark his position. The VC didn't want anyone calling for support so the radio operator was first on the hit list!

My 1st Shirt in tech school had done some CQ work behind the lines.

Real cool, laid back guy. Had heard more than once that he'd find enemy camps by the cigarette smoke, then slip in and do his job...

Another decent read is "Point of Impact", by Stephen Hunter.
In fact there seems to be a lot of parallels between his main character, and Hathcock.

Some memorable events in the story, trust me.

Meeting Gunny Hathcock and getting my copy of Marine Sniper autographed and a business card from him to use as a bookmark (right, that thing is framed!) really made my day at the HGCA show a few years ago.
