hello all,
well I took a break from elk hunting to check out the gun show in town... kindof sucked to be perfectly honest... the same ole rabble of mall ninjas had their tables set up with plastic'ed AK clones and AR15s, the same pawn shops hocking the wares I've been ignoring for the last 6 months... and most of the out of town shops were absent. well I went in with an Arcus 98DA and a spam can of tula 223 and walked out with a gently used springfield XD45 tactical. I've shot a number of XDs and the sibling XD lines and have owned a number of XDMs mostly in 45ACP. this is the first XD I've actually added to the fold, but so far I'm pretty happy with the exchange. I was not overly impressed with the arcus and had no intention of shooting the tula so I feel like I made a good trade.

she feels good in my hands and the trigger is quite nice, in line with other XDs I've shot but slightly spongier than my XDM triggers. the grips fit my hands perfectly and since the 45ACP variants of the XD and XDM use the same mags, I now have 5 mags for both(although one is a compact mag so it only works for the XDM). not sure if I plan to keep it or not but I will say this... I already like it more than the arcus :D

let's hear it for XD love.

Love both my XD45 service and tactical. It's still my favorite poly framed, striker fired 45acp. My service with a streamlight TLR 4 is usually my nightstand gun. It's far more comfortable in the hand than any other poly framed 45's with true double column mags. I definitely prefer the tactical at the range.

pretty sure the previous owner used this one as a nightstand gun, he had the case foam cut out to accommodate a flashlight. question, I've never paid much attention to them until now but do XDs use metal guiderods? I think mine might be aftermarket.

Xd subcompact and service models use a captive dual spring assembly. Aftermarket guide rod/spring combos are available for the service model.

I think (YMMV) the tactical uses a standard metal guide rod.

Buddy of mine shows up Sunday at the range with a new XD45 Tactical and puts it in my hand.I have handled and shot a few XDs and much prefer my XDMs,especially the 525 with the powder river trigger kit. So I get to shooting this beast at my dueling tree being careful to give it a fair trial and shazam-not only did it have a very good stock trigger but it shot right where I pointed it. Call me surprised and impressed. Good stuff.

Congrats dude. Share some pics!

I had an XD 45 Tactical a few years back. I actually really liked it. I like the XD 45 better than the XDM 45, actually. It just feels like more of a combat for some reason, to me.

The Gen4 Glock 21 is probably still my favorite 45 overall though... even over my HK 45 and new HK 45 CT. Those are very close runners up for second place, along with the M&P 45 midsize. I'm not sure I could pick a second favorite among them.

I should see if I can find another XD 45 Tactical and what I think about after all these years.

I've got an XD 45 tactical. Yes it has a metal guide rod. I had trijicon night sights installed on mine. It's a great shooter with a nice trigger. I've had a few issues with it in the past. It jammed on some random guys cheep hollow points a couple times, it didn't lock the slide back on the last round at least once, and there were a couple times the slide got stuck open halfway through a full magazine and as best as I can recall it wasn't me hitting the slide lock, but I'm not sure.

I have put about 600-700rounds of fmj brass cased ammo through it, and recently put 150 rounds of steel cased ammo through it. It ran perfect with the steel stuff. I have been considering selling it, but I'm starting to think I'd like to see how she does with the next 500 rounds. If all goes well I'll keep it. I love this gun, the slide is so smooth, it fits my hand well, and it looks awesome for what it is. Mine is OD green.

Good luck with yours!

Ultimately though I'm With Uncle Malice. Gen 4 21 is my favorite.

Yes, the guiderod should be metal. As far as the Glock gen 4, the biggest change was the two piece guiderod, which the XD had long before the gen 4 was introduced.:)

That wasn't a knock, just a known fact. A knock would be more akin to my reminding everyone about how Glock had a recall on their RSA's, while Springfield did not.;)

I think I was having a bad day. I didn't do too hot. shot about 150 rounds though it. no jams no problems... just didn't do it very accurately. I was shooting two pistols, neither performed well so I'm thinking it was me.

Uncle Malice... Even over the new HK you just got huh? Well dayum...

Tahunua, it's okay man. Everyone has their days when it's off like that. Give it another shot some time soon though.
