Just a last minute check before UPS-ing a Model-12 directly to Wright's Gunsmithing** in Pinckneyville, IL

I can ship DIRECTLY TO him (no FFL req'd on gthis end) (Yea/Nay)
and he can ship DIRECTLY BACK (again no FFL this end) (Yea/Nay)

Yes. There is a provision carved out specifically for shipping firearms to and from gunsmith. However, using UPS may wind up costing you more than you want. You can ship a long gun USPS much cheaper.

Edit: State laws may be more restrictive than fed. I was only stating fed rules.

I don't know if this is required, but it is quite common for the clerk at your UPS or Fedex office to ask to see a copy of the recipient's FFL.

direct ship

You are not buying a gun? It is already yours?
A few years ago I rebarreled a Mini 14. I shipped it direct to the repair person and he direct shipped it back. If I remember correctly, if you are shipping your own gun in for repair. it can be shipped directly back to you.
Others here on the board will set us both straight as needed.

All perfectly legal, but some FFLs will not accept shipments from individuals regardless of the legality, so you should contact them to make sure it's OK (maybe you have already).

That's sadly true of FFLs doing transfers because of the hassle of returning the gun if the buyer rejects it.

I've never heard of a gunsmith who wouldn't accept a gun directly from a customer, because they can ship it directly back.
