im looking into buying a used snubie off a friend that has been shot about 100-200 times. he doesnt like it and i am interested in the purchase. i havent seen it yet but he claims its in new condition. it a S&W .38 snubie, about 20-30 years old. i dont know the model # yet, but with this info what do you think its worth?

Make sure it's a 38 S&W Special and not 38 S&W :o

Here in Kali S&W J frame snubbies sell in the low to mid $300s in the shops. Private sales will be less.

The common story is a guy gets taken by the handiness and simplicity of a snub nose revolver and buys it. Later on at the range he discovers that it is actually quite a little beast in the hands. So he just puts away the revolver, firing it very infrequently. Finally he sells it. This is when you, the lucky guy, walks in on a deal.

After you find out the model, you can go to one of the auction sites and find a comparable value. Try gunbroker, auction arms, or gunsamerica.

SnWnMe, i know what i am getting cause i have a new 340pd that i love to shoot, as long as there 38's not 357's lol, but im not sure if its a spl. would $100-$150 be ripping him off? its a friend and co-worker that owns it.

Like new, 20 to 30 years old, and offering $100 to $150. You better give him a kiss on the cheek if he takes it.

Unless it is a POJ, I'd say $350.00-375.00. Older K frames, P&Rd particularly and RBd are climbing in price. I am guessing the FP is on the hammer. No MIM. I recently saw some for $370.00. I saw some beaters for $280.00.
