I'm still at the start of my career, so I've not been able to meet too many members of foreign military's

Chiefly I was wondering about some of our NATO allies, such as the Bundeswehr and the British Army.

I was wondering what the impression was from each respective countries service rifle compared to the US M16/M4'

I know the SA80 was a right mess when it was first adopted, and that it was in fact H&K that was contracted to help come up with a solution to the problems that plagued the rifle.

The G36 seems to have seen some success, and if I'm not mistaken, H&K took some of their experience with the rifles firing system and applied it to a modified piston driven M4 ala the HK M416.

Please share your experiences if you don't mind, other service members past or present are welcome to share their history if they would like as well :D

ISAF NATO

Hey, I'm currently on a deployment where the Germans are the land owners. I'm on a FOB where we have Armenians, Canadians, Germans, the Fins, and I'm sure others that I dont pay much attention to. I've also been to several other bases where there were Croatians, Norwegians, French, and seriously more but can;t recall at the moment. ALL of them are under the impression that Americans are Badasses... I've been afforded the opportunity to speak to many other nation's soldiers and most of them think very highly of the M-4 (majority would stare at my M-249 SAW wherever ide go as well). I thought personally the german/ Armenian HK G36K was a bad ass weapon. I havent fired one yet however finger plucked a couple... They are mainly a polymer or composit weapon with a built in red dot and optic stacked on top of one another. Theyare light too! (but, again, I hump a SAW Wherever I go). Oh the Mongolians are here too... I like the Germans, they seem squared away. our Afghan counterparts (ANA/ AUP) dont seem to think they are very professional however. I can say they are well funded much like the US. Any more specific question you may wanna throw my way feel free the personal message me, If I can ask them a question for ya, I will.

I am currently in the navy. I have quite a bit of experience with the hk416. From an standard soldier standpoint It is superior to the standard colt m4. It is a great service rifle. But being a marksman i don't like it. I will take it over a colt m4 though. As a marksman though, i wouldn't want either one.

I've never been a soldier, but my father did his compulsory service as a munitions officer in the Taiwanese Army in the 70s. They were issued and trained on a mix of M14s and M16s donated from the USA. According to him the M16 was unpopular because the small caliber barrel would wick up moisture and explode when fired, while the larger caliber M14 would let water drain out.

I was assigned to Prince Sultan Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the mid 1990's. This Air Base was shared by French and UK air forces. I met many French & UK guys during my assignment and had no trouble at all. One French airmen looked a lot like Errol Flynn and told the best jokes.

It was a crappy assignment as far as geography goes but the great people made it tolerable.
