Curiousity has the best of me - do they make their own frames for these or do they utilize somebody's frame and go from there?
Also . . . since the touch hole is so far forward from the breech end of the barrel . . . how do they design it as far as the breech plug? Is it just an extra long threaded plug?

Yes, sort of.
The breech plug is right behind the touch hole just like normal flintlocks. The "barrel" behind the breech plug is overbored and just acts as a dummy barrel extension for the rear sight. The thing in back is just a threaded cap to keep from having a big open hole in the rear.
