Just bought another one

I've had my eye on the Bersa Thunder for a while. Before coming to TFL I was attracted by the looks and cost but I was scared off because I assumed with the price, well you know the saying "you get what you pay for" and I didn't want to get burned. After reading what people on TFL have to say about it and after renting one a couple months ago I was sold but I had other guns I had to get first.

Well, today I finally put down a depost on one and now I just have to wait for the stupid MD 7 day waiting period. Since the MD State Police don't start the paperwork on weekends my 7 days don't start until Monday so a week from Tuesday is the earliest I can pick it up  .

I actually didn't go to buy any guns today. After all I just put a shotgun on layaway yesterday while waiting for a check to clear- it cleared and I used it on this gun so I'll actually have to use the layaway until I get my NEXT paycheck for the shotgun.

I just went to the range to shoot my snub again (after 100 .38+Ps today I now have 500 rounds in it). Not sure how I did it but sometime during the shooting session (though it could have been from my .22 bolt action rifle- yeah right) I severely hurt my wrist. I have minor arthritis and carple tunnel (sp?) and my wrist was throbbing before I was done, in fact it still hurts now and is a bit swollen. Well, I will give the snub a few more chances (probably just need to limit it to a box at a time) but in addition to the pain I wasn't very accurate (in small guns I find autos much more accurate for me). I will probably be going to PA for grad school next year (a CCW state) and I will want a pocket sized gun and I probably won't have the money to buy any guns (or few anyway) as a grad student so I figure I should buy all I'll want for the next few years now. I won't want to rely on this revolver. After shooting I did my usual browsing of the gun shelves and they were almost sold out of Bersas which ended up my final motivation. So, since I wanted it anyway, I picked up the Bersa (like the way I talked myself into it :D ).

When I pick it up in about a week and a half  I'll give you a range report.

Congrats on the Bersa but I hope you have better luck than I had with my one and only Bersa. It was a jammer. Which snub did you shoot and how was accuracy? Today for me will be the new Taurus 85 Police Undercover and the second range visit for the Ruger P90.

I bought my Taurus 605 a little more than a month ago.

It is hard to be accurate with it. It is noticably better with .357 ammo but that is way too hard on my hand (though I'll shoot the weaker .357 commercial loads, like the Winchester USA, occasionally). Also, since the snub is much harder on the hand than a similarly sized auto I find that after about 30 or 40 rounds my accuracy really suffers and as I approach 100 it becomes really tough (some of my rounds weren't even on the target at about 20'). Of course, since I used .38+Ps yesterday that was worse than it would have been with plain .38s which aren't as bad out of it.

It is really uncomfortable for more than 30 rounds of +P or 10 rounds of even the weakest .357 (when I've tried some mildly powerful .357s in it I didn't even bother shooting an entire cylinder), .38s out of it feel like a stout .357 out of my 3" K-frame (not bad but not for the timid). Then again, some of that is my bad wrist (my left hand is my weak hand and I can handle more rounds shooting with my weak hand one handed than with my strong hand two handed).

I would normally say go rent one first if you are thinking about a snub but that will only help a little (if you really don't like it). When I rented a lightweight .38 snub it seemed a bit punishing but nothing too bad. When I first bought my 605 I thought it was less punishing than I expected. At first I even shot a box of weak .357s along with 50 +Ps and 100 .38s. So you may not be able to reach an educated verdict about how you feel about small snubs until you actually own one and have shot it on several occasions. For me I think from now on I'll probably stick with K-frames snubs when I want 2", 2 1/2", or 3", at least until something really catches my eye and it has been long enough that I forget that I don't want to buy small snubs :D .

Bersa

Good Luck with the Bersa ;) I have an older model 83 that hasn't left me down yet! :) Decent gun for not a lot of money ;)
