Just Bought A 1858 New Army

I just bought a 1858 New Army made by Uberti.

What caps fit it the best ( brand & size ) ?

What load gives you the best results ?

Well

For caps you will probably like CCI 10s. There are caps out there that others like better but these are a good place to start.

For the load you will eventually find the charge you like but if it is a .44 I would start at somewhere around 22. Then go up from there.

Lets see what some of the more scientific shooter say.

Tnx,

Spot on Doc, 22gr to 24gr should be the sweet spot for the 1858. How did you get so smart ! ;)

redrick, congrats on the purchase. One you'll be sure not to regret and it WILL make you smile. :0)

My millenium Uberti Remingtons function well with Remington #10s. The CCIs are way too tight and won't seat all the way down.

Uberti Remington: My favorite cap and ball!

Started with 11's ... they worked "OK".. with about a 5% failure to fire on the first attempt.

Went to 10's... big improvement. They do seem to like to be seated with a pusher-dowel for 100% reliability. These are with CCI's, and I think I'll take the earlier respondants suggestion and try some Remington 10's next time thru. The CCI's just do not seem to fit with complete confidence inspiring precision.

Thanks for all the advice. I am trying to shorten the learning curb and not waste money. I have already spent $174 on it and still have to buy powder, caps and a holster.

If you got a Uberti for that price... you're well ahead of the curve! That's a great deal.

They are excellent revolvers, user friendly, accurate, and well built.

Congratulations!
