just another stippling of grips

here is my first run on stippling. i chose my PF-9 for two reasons: its very snappy so i wanted more traction. and reason 2 is: i only have one polymer pistol!

anyway, i didnt want to get TOO aggressive with it, so what you see is what you get. might do a little on the front strap of the trigger guard, maybe.

i could see me doing this to a few ar-15 grips, and maybe my rem-870 pump and pistol grip.

Stippled

It is a little addicting. I just found that my S&W 22A had a plastic grip and went to town on it.

Good job on the shotty and AR!!!

what are you guys using to do the stippling?

i want to do my xd45 and was thinking of using a spare soldering iron. i have a few spare ar take off grips to practice with.

tips and hints would be helpful.

thanks,

JOE

yeah, i was just using a soldering iron, with a pointed tip. only tip i can give you is that soldering irons melt plastic FAST so start light and fast.

im going to try and experiment with some different tips i have from my wood burning kit.

and another thing, not all plastics melt the same. i tried to do this to the aftermarket magazine plate for my PF-9 mags, but that plastic is too brittle. i suggest you try the first few marks on a inconspicuous area so if it doens't work well you can just sand paper it down and make it flat again

Joe,

What jborushko said.

Just take it slow and steady, not too much pressure, and don't hold it in one spot too long. A clean tip on the iron helps also.

fortunately or unfortunately im all out of plastic to play with. maybe as i get a few more weapons there will be more to come, but who knows.

course a friend of mine now wants his XD done, ill post pics of that when it gets done.

A couple of those have a gator/lizard skin look. COOL!!

There are sooo many ideas shooting through my head, but I've run out of guns.
Maybe I have a knife or two I could work on!?!

gonna do some spare ar grips tonight as test projects. if they turn out ok then the taurus 709 slim will get done and if that works out ok then the xd45 will get done.

thanks for all the pics and info guys.
