Just and observation

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed on sites like gunbroker and auction arms, that anyone trying to sell a new S&W wont show pics of the side with the lock?

Yes --- and it annoys the heck out of me as there are a few S+W revos I'd like to pick up in a recent pre-lock config, howeer none are so rare I figure screw it I will jsut find them locally.

I have also noted this trend in the gun rags ---- maybe it's just me but I don't think so, maybe it's not deliberate, just a silent agreement that the lock thinggy is at the very liest ugly.

I would like to complain about whats been said

I think that your being TOO kind to smith calling them UGGLY:)
The new "thinggy" is on par with Rosan Barr

I appreciate the fact that this whole lock subject has been done to death, as far as S&W is concerned. But I was wondering if anyone had any real data concerning S&W's sales since they started with the lock?

Being new to this, help me out.
Aside from the fact that it may be a bit distracting and aesthetically unpleasant to some, what difference does it make whether there is, or is not, a lock?
I have a brand new 686+ and it is a fine handgun.
Other than just the fact that you may not like the politics behind its being there, or the little keyhole is an eyesore to you, it's EXACTLY the same gun with or without it....isn't it?

As for myself I'd say you hit the nail on the head;) . My problem is not necessarily with the lock itself. My problem is with the location and unsightliness of the damn thing:barf: . Again speaking only for myself, a well made revolver can be appreciated not only for it's qualities as a tool but also for its aesthetic appeal.

I do own a new S&W 642, and I have to say it's one great carry gun. But I do hate looking at that lock!

I hate the fact that S&W buckled and bowed over to liberals and lawyers and then sold out to a foreign ownership. THAT'S what makes that damn little keyhole so ugly to me.

What makes the lock ugly to me:

1. It's physically ugly --- a small wart like apendage that does not need to be there and can not easily be removed

2. It violates the kiss priciple by the addition of extra and needless parts to a guns internal workings that could fail or otherwise casuse problems --- yes that's right the Keep it Super Simple idea --- in general the fewer the parts the better (just ask and glock armorer I think it's a mantra they chant in their training) --- if I am carrying a wheel gun it's typically because I'm camping, hiking, traveling or otherwise doing someting that might expose the weapon to greater amounts of dirt or less than ideal care and maintance and I still want the thing to work despite all of that.

3. It is not needed, political BS and in my opinion probibly dangerous --- I think of the peace of mind the lowest common denominator of moron gets from an intregral gun lock as being akin to buying a gun some ammo, shooting a few maybe and then chucking the loaded thing in a bed side drawr --- it's a very false sense of secuty --- gusn still need to be in decent safes if they are in the home and there is any, any chance of unauthorized acess, thining the wart lock will stop a bad guy or a determined kid bent on exploring or worse is pure folly --- I sure know I could ahve defeated that thing when I was 8 or 10 if it had existed and the motivation was there.

If you want to make a lot of bucks as a gunsmith tool up to make S+W lock work with out the lock bits and sell and oversized release button to cover the ugly hole up.
