Went to the store today and they had a K9 Elite with my name all over it. Traded my Sig 225 for it. I couldnt hit a brick wall with the Sig, and I cant miss with the MK9 Elite, so this was a no-brainer. I will let you know how it does at the range tomorrow. If you dont own a Kahr, you need to go buy one!

I've got the hots to get a K9 Elite. Hey opie, why don't you take a drive down south so I can shoot it? ;) I just don't see them very often down here in Florida. Anyone know what a good price for one is?

Why do most people buy the K9? Is the K40 too hot in such a small pistol? I've been thinking of getting one. Also, I heard that all the new Kahrs will now have the Elite trigger. Any one know for sure? Sam

Opie,

Ar you sure that isn't my name all over it? :D

Sam C,
"Why do most people buy the K9?"

Because, truth be told, the 9mm is really all you need! :D

I really like my K9 (recent trade) and look forward to finding a P9 with my name (9x19) all over it at the next gun show (11-11-00).

Make mine lean, mean, and 9x19!

I bought a K9 because it was the only model Kahr available when I made the purchase.

I'd still probably have gone with the K9, as I have quite a few other guns in 9mm.

I just wish they would come out with a K45.

Gino, I paid around $550 for each of my Elites. I gave a used Sig 225 and $100 cash for the newest one. I had about $420 in the Sig.

Sam C, I cant afford to even buy these guns, much less shoot .40, I am probably headed for divorce anyway for todays little actions! The Elite trigger comes standard on the polymer P9, the stainless guns have both

Anyone know a easy trick to get this slide stop out? This is much harder than my MK to break down, as a matter of fact I quit trying after a few minutes and just put it away, Never did get it apart.

I am goin to go stare at my gun some more before I go to bed, see yah!

Opie-IN, go the Kahr home page, then click on the Kahr Shop, then Accessories where you will find that they have a "Take Down Block" for $5.00. Get one, it makes dis-assembly a piece of cake.

For taking down my Kahr, I made a wedge of wood that I put in the action to keep it open the proper amount, and another that I rest the slide stop pin on. I then push down on the gun, and it pops the slide stop up.

These are pretty tight to get apart.

Does anyone find the parkerized finish on theirs to be next to worthless in preventing rusting?

If I were not such a great shot with mine, I think I would have gotten rid of it already.

Opie -- for takedown, I (after unloading, of course) hold the weapon in my left hand, muzzle pointed away from me, thumb through the trigger guard, fingers over the top of the slide, and with the assistance of my right hand move the slide back to the takedown notch. Then, using the plastic bottom of an empty mag in my right hand, I push the takedown pin until it pops out (watch out -- it sometimes goes across the room :) ). With practice, this can be done in less than 15 seconds -- though it was a struggle for me at first, too. Best wishes, and congrats.

Mike -- if your Kahr is the standard (matte) finish, it's not parked, it's bead-blasted stainless. Hence, no real rust protection. A number of TFL folks have had problems with rust on theirs. The bead blasted finish probably holds more moisture than a smooth finish would. I would recommend a good wipe-down after handling or putting up at the end of the day, or you may want to investigate having it finished -- search the archives for others' experiences with this.

I didn't think there was a polymer MK9. I thought it was called the P9 and it was a little bigger than the all stainless steel MK9. A MK9 with a polymer frame would be great. Is there a polymer frame MK9?

The only reason that I don't is that the slide on the Kahr bites my hand when I fire it. Bad ergonomics, at least for me!!!!!

Nope,Kahr doesn't make a polymer MK9 yet but you can bet I'll grab one when they do. My K9 Elite is one of the sweetest pistols I own. Looks great and it's 100% reliable. :)

Sam C, I don't think the K40 is too hot in such a small pistol because I've got an MK40 and it's quite manageable to shoot, and accurate to boot. It's just a guess, but doesn't the K9 have a higher magazine capacity than a K40? Maybe that's the reason why more K9s are sold.

Opie-IN, congrats on your new firearm. Sounds great.

SkipperJ, thanks for the tip on the 'block'.

Mike Irwin, I had the same trouble with rusting. Not cheap, but consider having your pistol refinished. I used Robar (see http://www.robarguns.com/metal.html ), with Roguard on the slide, and NP3 on the rest. Looks great, although I had a problem with my holster, and need to get the slide redone - got a little damage from a mag rubbing against the slide (I don't consider this damage / wear to be Robar's fault).

I'm close to sending my K9 in to have the Elite trigger installed ... much better, IMHO.

These are great carry firearms. Very comfortable in the hand, IMHO.

I use the same takedown method as awisler. No need for the takedown block. I can take down my Kahrs faster than a Glock. I use the plastic handle of a screwdriver to tap out the slide stop. Before someone told me this procedure, it did seem to take three hands.

Regarding the K40s, I have one but find that the recoil is uncomfortable. This seems to be somewhat related to hand size. People with smaller hands don't seem to have the same problem. People like me with larger hands sometimes feel an impact between thumb and forefinger during shooting. I now grip the gun very, very tightly. That and a Harrts recoil reducer have improved things. Nevertheless, it's not a gun that I want to put a hundred rounds through during one session at the range. It isn't terrible -- it's certainly better than my S&W 642 with .38 +P. But the K9 is a pussycat in comparison. Even the MK9 has less felt recoil. YMMV.

Regarding the base finish, yes I've heard it isn't very good. Two of my Kahrs are stainless elites. The third is a K40 with factory Black-T finish (now discontinued, but very nice).

I have a medium large hand, hope the Elite 40 doesn't hurt too bad. If you are going to carry, might as well carry something that ends the fight quickly. 135 grain Corbon or Triton (1350 fps) seems about right. Stay Safe, Sam

That is the cost for a complete custom conversion package, which includes dehorning the gun and reshaping the trigger. I got a quote from Mac of $175 for cutting down the frame, one MK9 magazine, and polishing the feed ramp. If you eliminate the feed ramp polish, I am sure you can get the conversion for even less. I am still debating whether I want to cut the frame myself or send it off to be done.
