I finally reassembled my Ithaca 87, after it being in mothballs for three years. Let me tell you this shotgun puts my beloved 870's to shame! I own two 870's, one a Police and one an early 90s Express, which is beautiful nonetheless and fully the same shottie, sans the finish, as the vaunted Police model. But the Ithaca, restored to full operational glory, is TWICE the daggone shotgun as the 870. Better balance, everything on the damn thing is MACHINED, everythin on the thing is BEEF and most of all, esthetic! Just a beauteous piece. My otherwise beloved 870's can't touch this marvel!

That is all

My friend has an Ithaca Featherweight(?) I dunno what model it was cause his father wrapped it in camo but it was a nice gun. I wouldn't trade it for my Remington Wingmaster though. ;)

Yes the Ithaca 37/87 is the last vestige of the golden age of repeating shotguns. The Winchester 97 and M12, The Remington 31 and the Ithaca 37 were made by hand, machined and not assembled with stampings and plastic.

That's why Ithaca is out of business, the gun just is too costly to make the old way.

Even the 870, the gun that killed off the M12 and Rem 31, is now in danger as cheaper guns and Chicom knockoffs compete in the marketplace.

Hang on to that gun.
