July 4th is Open Carry Day!

I will be taking the opportunity this 4th of July to openly carry my 1911. I'm hoping that other patriotic men will do the same in their states.

Stand up and be counted as a lover of freedom this 4th by carrying openly and with pride.

Sounds great but

in my state, open carry is "illegal" (notwithstanding that such "illegality" is contrary to the Constitution). Thus I won't be risking spending my holiday in the pokey. But more power to those in open carry states! Tell you what, I'll carry open in my front yard - at least all the neighbors can see.

IF I get my SAR-1/WASR-10 AK tomorrow, I think I'll have it on my lap while sitting on my lawn. :D

Hey, it's my property!

Hope I don't get in trouble with the cops due to the warnings of terrorist acts for the 4th of July.

Any .45, if it were okay everywhere on July 4th, you would have already heard about it other places, such as on the national and local news. There would be a lot of upset anti-gun people voicing their opinions and some happy pro-gunners as well, but the story would be with the upset people.

Theophorus, I am assuming that you must mean public open carry in states where it is allowed or on private land in states where it is not allowed and that those carrying openly not violate any laws in the process.

You don't have to be patriotic or a man to open carry as described. Both descriptors are rather short sighted.

While you may think it patriotic to open carry, it is pretty darn stupid if it is being done where such activity is illegal.

Its illegal to carry openly in my state but I do take pleasure in getting out my hardware and cleaning it on the front porch, just to let some of the less favorable neighbors know not to mess with our cars or home, I did kind of put me off at how intencely interested in my mail man was in my AK type guns.
