Or perhaps everybody buy Unintended Consequences with a credit card...

I find myself using cash more and more.....

This is why I do most of my "questionable" book buying at gunshows. There're a couple of book dealers who only take cash. No credit cards, no checks, nothing that leaves a record. Just cash. (They also know my face and usually give me discounts because I give them lots of business.)

I hope the owners of The Tattered Cover take this opportunity to start warning future customers that cash leaves no paper trail...

Even if they find out who bought the book there is no proof they ran the lab . If I buy a book and I have 5 roomies I can leave it lying around and no one knows who read it . I may purchase a cook book but decide against using any of the recipes . If my roomie makes something from the book I am not the cook .This is a witch hunt with the witches doing the hunting .

Yeah, but simply being on the list of buyers could set you up for a 3 a.m. raid by thugs in masks carrying automatic weapons and shaking with adrenaline.

This really burns my butt!I bought U.C. from Amazon with my credit card and will shout it from a mountain top!Besides, the 2 other people I`ve loaned it to are still safe from govt.snooping.Damage done feds! Besides, frequenting this forum probably has us all on a list anyway,so screw`em.

Scary stuff.

Consider that Tom Clancy deals with such topics as espionage, murder, snipers, SWAT teams, treason, drugs, weapons - from knives to ICBM's, ebola-type viruses, revolution, etc. and sells millions of copies a year. I have every one of his books, would that be 'evidence' of some heinous motive on my part ?

How's this for irony - I recently saw for sale in a "Book Outlet" type store, a few copies of The Turner Diaries. I was very tempted to buy it, just to see what all the controversy was about with OK city and all, but I remembered someone here saying that it had no redeeming qualities whatoever. That it was not well written and was just race war garbage. I was still tempted to get it, because sometimes I just like to get inside people's heads, and see how & why they think the way they do, but thought it was not something I would want in my library. What if a houseguest or babysitter came across it ? Not that I'm planning on breaking any laws but what if the police were ever to come to my home, for any reason, and saw it ? It was enough to keep me from spending my money.

My father was prophetic. He told me to pay cash (no paper trail), stop playing with black guns cuz they'll take 'em away :( ), and never write something when you can type. This was back in the late '70s.

RH -
You can read (or download) "The Turner Diaries" on the net free. You'll find it if you look.

I wouldn't want a copy in my home either, and I agree its not well written, but yes it was interesting just to see how other people think. And while I can't recall any offhand, there may have been a few tactical tips in with the racial garbage.

Please, purchase any book that you wish if you are an American as it is your Constitutional right! Fiction, poetry, whatever, until Hitler comes back and starts burning the books again.
I am really in a funk now :( :(

This phrase is the thin edge of the wedge!

Prosecute them for using the information for illegal gain, but NOT for buying the book!

I have for some times kept a copy of the turner diaries simply to be able to remind myself from time to time that there actually are people out there who are that full of hatred! I have never met anyone that bad myself, and until I read it , I would not have believed that a soul could be so filled with bile! I also have, for a long time, endeavored to leave no unneccessary paper trail on ANYTHING. Just seems like a sensible precaution.

paranoia is a great policy when one finds onesself discussing things like this on a forum and You know THEY are watching!

Just on the topic, after the bombing of "The Otherside" (the lesbian nightclub here in Atlanta) the Effa-Bee-Eye and BATF interviewed my roommate, who was a "disgruntled ex-employee". He cheerfully sat at my desk in his pyjamas with a mixing bowl full of Cap'n Crunch and answered their questions. On my bookshelf behind him, in full view of the agents, were copies of The Anarchist's Cookbook, Handgun Stopping Power, Jane's guides to everything that floats, flies, rolls and/or goes "Bang!", U.S. Army field manuals on how to do unkind things to complete strangers, etc. They never returned for a second interview. I want my tax dollars back... :D
