Join my crusade for a .44 Sig

Who thinks we could use a good .45ACP necked down to .44? Just think. More gun mag articles, more loading data, and a whole new set of uses to dream up.

THe 400 Corbon is a .45 necked down to a .40 bullet. Can we say ouch boys and girls. =) You can get after market Barrels for Most 1911 style weapons and the Glock 21. I am sure there are others as well.

There would be absolutly no bonus though to necking a .45 down to a .44. the change is so small that the velocity difference would be pointless. But necking it down to a .40.. I think it would be a great round. I get this feeling that it will not take off though. =( Oh and for the record they also have a .440 Corbon. it is a .50AE case necked down to accept a .44 Calliber Bullet. Cor Bon Claims that it excedes the velocity of a .454 Cassual. TO my knolege the only gun chambered in it is the Desert Eagle as of right now.

Get the right PR people workin on it and it will sell like hotcakes. Suggest using trimmed 30-06 berdan primed brass for max strength. Starter load, 224 gr in front of duplex of unique and bullseye. Probably a good candidate for the Narwalling single land progressive rifling system. Call it the " Ultimate Tacticle Carry Super Defender " and the ninja types will be falling over themselves to get one.

Actually, there's a little-known cartridge out there called the .460 Rowland, a "lengthened" .45

185s at 1550fps in a 5" bbl

See the new post re .460 Rowland ...

If you BUZZ Word and "Spin" it - they will come...

Try taking the .50EA case and necking that down to .44 - Huh?

I believe a necked-down .50AE to .44 is known as the .440 Corbon...

Yep, found it at http://www.cor-bon.com/qanda.html :

Q: I have your catalog and it mentions the 440 CorBon Magnum cartridge as "very new". Is it available?

A: The 440 CorBon Magnum is a 50 AE case necked down to accept a 44 caliber hunting bullet. It was developed with assistance from Magnum Research for the Desert Eagle autopistols. The ballistic coefficient of the .44 caliber bullet is excellent and you combine this with the added case capacity of the 50AE and you have a lethal combination. For example, you can push a 260gr Bonded Hollowpoint bullet out there at over 1700fps. The Desert Eagle is a gas operated semi-automatic pistol with hearty size, this reduces the recoil and makes it a surprisingly easy gun to shoot.

From reading the subject line I thought the request was for a SIG in .44 Magnum. :)

I want to see a Glock in something bigger than 10mm Auto. I can't think of a better bear/survival handgun than a Glock in .440 Corbon or similar caliber.

I have rethunk my original idea and it stinks. I now think it would be better to create a .50 BMG in a compact handgun. The cartridge could be inserted in the grip and if the bend wasn't too severe, the bullet could start upwards and then be directed forward into the muzzle. It would be light and powerful and would not violate ANY magazine capacity limits as it would only take ONE shot.
Maybe titanium would be good to keep the weight down. I think porting would be essential and the straight part of the L-shaped barrel should be at least 3 inches to stabilize the 650 gr. PPC load.
And if anyone thinks either of these posts were serious, I have a bridge for sale.

My thoughts- we neck the .45acp up to .50 caliber. Call it the 45/50 Nitro Express. Chamber it in compact 1911s, and voila, we have-

The Ultimate Tactical Concealed Elephant Whomper!
TUTCEW, when defeat is not an option! :)

Lavan, where is that bridge? Good location? ;)

The 50BMG cartridge is too long! How about a shorter but fatter 62 caliber with a 650 grain gold dot or hydrashock. It could also take 20 gauge shells in buck, bird or slugs. Muzzle energy would be no more than twice the .44mag. We should be able to adapt to it since some of us can handle 12 gauge 3" magnums in two-handed pistol grip (though the weight of the SG sure helps, in a short revolver it would be a rough ride

Try necking down a .40 to a .22 and call it the .22 sig-erette and watch the media go after it as a horrible handgun round that encourages kids to smoke . . .

In all seriousness, could you actually neck the .40 down that much? I wonder what kind of velocity you could get?

Lavan, you ain't gonna believe this, but it has been done, there is a .50 bmg single shot pistol. The frame is a 1911, and it has a single shot barrel mounted on it.

I don't remember which one, but it was in a gun magazine a long time ago, either guns or handgunner because it was on the last page in the insider information section. They had a picture of the inventor firing it in the dark. There was a fireball coming out the end of the gun about the size of the guy shooting it. :D

And no I am not making this up! I promise.

I remember them saying in the article that the range he shot at would only let him shoot after hours in case he blew himself up they didn't want anybody else there. Also the inventor was looking at the feasibility of making a 20mm necked down to 50 caliber pistol!
