John Milius: 3 page interview!

Wow. I was always a fan (even liked 1941) but this quote cinched it for me, Milius is one of the last REAL men in Hollyweird:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
""Well, I’m still here and they’re not. It’s like the Jews are the greatest collectors of Nazi art. I asked Mel Brooks about that, I said 'how come us Jews have all the Nazi art?’ and he said ‘Because we won!’ I remember somebody gave me this piece of Nazi memorabilia, some pennant that went on a tank, an SS pennant, and a few years ago I gave it to Steven Spielberg for Christmas. And he said ‘I can’t own this!’ I said ‘You gotta look at it this way, Steven — we won.
This is like being a big rancher in the Southwest and having a bunch of Apache bulls on the ranch.’ "

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That took a little cajones! Not too much "PC" coming from him.

I think he oughta make some new movies. Something tells me he would find an even bigger audience these days.

I am acquainted with John Milius. When I lived in L.A., he and I and some other people used to have lunch/dinner, and then shoot at the Beverly Hills Gun Club. Milius is as stauch believer in our unalienable Rights as they come.

Once, I told him that although I liked "Red Dawn," I thought he missed it in a one place.

He asked, "Where?"

I said, "They won't be coming from Cuba/Mexico: they'll be coming from Bragg and Pendleton."

He said. "I think you're right."

Once, I buddy of mine and I, took one of his customn .375 H&H Mags to Colo., as a backup elk rifle, because, as John said, "I want to keep it blooded." Didn't need it but it was comforting to have it along.

He and his (now, ex) wife, Celia, were major supporters of our fight against Kalif.'s Prop. 15, in 1982, the infamous handgun confiscation initiative.

FWIW. J.B.

Milius wrote a great article in Double Gun Journal about Fabbri Shotguns a couple of years ago. Had pictures of Him, Actor Brad Johnson and Tullio Fabbri the maker on a bird hunt. Fabbris start at $60.000 for the base model and Milius owns about a dozen of them. Great article, the guy knows his firearms.

Had one pssage where he was bird hunting on a hot day and stopped to get a drink of water from a hose. He startled his hunting companions by pouring water down the barrels of his Fabbri O/U. Told them the gun ws thirsty!
