John McCain Betrays Us Again With Anti-gun Bill, update

The NCRF is sure glad to have opposed John McCain during the Presidential primary elections, as can be seen in his latest actions. McCain now is the poster boy for gun control, as he plans to introduce one of his new bills. For news, status update, and action you can take go to the "cat and mouse" icon at:

He certainly ain't no friend of ours that's for sure.Anybody else getting tired of the constant pub. the media gives him when essentially he hasn't done anything (I aint talking about his war record) other than spout off occasionally? I sure am.

Apparently McCain's inability to read the First Amendment (campaign finance "reform") is now spreading to the Second Amendment as well.

The media loves McCain because if his version of campaign finance reform is passed then their influence over elections will increase greatly. They want to put him on as much as possible for their own purposes.

Once they have what they want, they'll discard him.

Plan ?

I think if he gets the "Democrat Protection Plan" law he so egerly supports he might change parties and have a permanant seat in the senate (like he does'nt allready)

McCain's a good example of why we need our Pro-Bill of Rights
friends on the Democratic side of the aisle.
He's a loose cannon in an evenly divided Senate.

I just sent this off to our dear Senator Mc Cain. Took a form letter and hacked away at it. It will probably end up in the circular file anyway, but I just had to respond.

Dear Senator McCain:

I was deeply dissapointed and angered to hear about the gun control legislation that you and Senator Lieberman are working on. This is just what we need - more federal legislation. I am asking that you stop this ill-conceived nonsense immediately.
Have you ever read the Second Amendment Senator? Do you understand what it means? The American people have a right to keep and bear arms that "shall not be infringed." What part of "not infringed" don't you understand? This right is not granted by government or by the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights enumerates "natural laws" that are the birth rights of all Americans- these are not, I repeat, NOT granted. They are not privileges. All of the proposals you are pushing will chip away at the rights of decent, law-abiding citizens, rights which the government has no right to limit. The litany of government abuses of power is long but I will mention a few benchmarks. First we have the widespread and increasingly blatant abuse of eminent domain powers over the citizens of all 50 states for totally unnecessary "projects. "Next we have that bit of evil federal arrogance called the RICO statutes - which are clear violations of the rights of due process listed in the 4th Amendment. Now we have more and more gun control legislation, legislation which does little or nothing to limit the ability of criminals to acquire weapons, but which dramatically and unconstitutionally infringes on the rights of law-abiding citizens to obtain weapons for self-defense, for collective defense, and for sporting purposes. Every year, more and more laws are passed. Tell me, Senator, are these laws making us more free, or less? Our sacred liberties are being increasingly restricted for a host of reasons, from trying to make society "safer" to that particularly insidious piece of tripe, "Its for the Children...". Are you trying to make our society more "safe", Senator? If I wanted to live in a "safer" society, there are many nations in which I could live. I would be very safe in many of these nations, but I would not be very free- I would be no more than a SUBJECT, and certainly not a CITIZEN. Many of the "safest" societies in history were also among the most repressive. On this subject, let me paraphrase one of our Founders, Benjamin Franklin, who said, "He who sacrifices essential liberty for a little imagined safety and security deserves neither." Do you think this nation is not becoming repressive, Senator? Look around you. The freedoms the First Amendment codifies are being undermined by so-called "hate crime" legislation. Rampant "Political Correctness" is simply a stealth form of repression - it is no more than tyranny with manners. We need to stop this now. Stop the government power grab. Stop trying to limit the God-given rights of our citizenry. For we are CITIZENS, Senator Mc Cain, not SUBJECTS. Justify your actions any way you wish, but do not convince yourself that in this effort you are a friend of liberty. If you hold your oath of office and the Constitution you swore to protect in any sort of reverence, you must abandon this proposed legislation immediately.

Should you succeed in this matter-- and I will do everything I can to oppose your efforts -- I want you to know that you will greatly undermine the freedoms that Americans now enjoy and have enjoyed for over 200 years. Furthermore, I should inform you that I will never support anyone who consistently tries to undermine the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Yours In Liberty,

Richard A. Zackerdonski

My letter.

I just sent off my letter to Sen. McCain after getting word from GOA on the latest situation.

Here is my letter which I sent both in an e-mail and US Postal:

February 15, 2001

Senator John McCain
241 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator McCain,

I am a 58 year old veteran writing as a very concerned citizen of this country. In reading the Roll Call article of February 8, 2001, I am troubled at the reported gun control "compromise" that you and Senator Joe Lieberman are forming. As a family man and law abiding patriotic citizen, I felt the need to write to you to ask that you reconsider these efforts. Each time these new laws are placed on the books, we citizens lose.

As I understand, a portion of the gun control legislation you are proposing will stop private sales at gun shows unless the buyer submits to a registration background check. On its face, that statement does not sound all that threatening, however, the abuses to the Constitutional rights of our citizens are the out fall. Case in point, delays of computer systems; or bad software programming; or inattentive master data base systems; or inappropriate costs to the citizens; or anything longer than a few minutes; or the registering of law abiding citizens exercising their constitutional rights is just plain wrong.

Without very strict "registration background checks" guidance and timeliness (within minutes at little or no cost), gun shows will become non-existent. The next step will be the gun control attack on any private sales in this country. At that point, total confiscation of all guns will occur, which may not be your objective, but it is the final objective of the gun control element. This final act may not occur within yours or my lifetime, but it will happen! This will come about through the use of the massive build-up of the "registration data base", paid for by the "law abiding (gun nut) citizens of which I and my family belong. We patriots will most assuredly pay for the destruction of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

If you have read my letter to this point, I thank you for not throwing it into the round file marked "Gun Nut". There are other provisions that I have read in this "compromise legislation package" that I am not thrilled with. In each case, I could spend several more pages of text in opposition to, but I won't, as I believe that you understand my concern.

I am a college educated grandfather and must tell you that there are very few in my family or circle of friends that think differently than I have expressed earlier. In the primaries of the recent Presidential race, I was a contributing member of the McCain for President campaign as I felt you understood the gravity of the situation. Maybe I was wrong.

Please think very seriously about what is occurring by generating one more gun control measure. The mire fact that forcing federal agents to increase efforts at arresting and convicting honest gun owners who, in many cases, may inadvertently violate one of the many federal anti-gun laws, which punish mere technicalities, is undermining the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Please reconsider and do not continue to chip away at the rights of decent, law-abiding citizens.

Sincerely yours,

I kept mine very short and sweet.Told him he broke his promises to the people of the state of AZ and I would not ever vote for him again and will do my best to see he never elected in this state again.Allso told him I will campain(sp)for whoever runs against him.I allso compared him to Klinton as far as his lieing. It will not do anygood but?

John McCain is paying us back for not letting him be president. Hell, I expect him to change parties soon.

While I respect McCain for upholding the highest traditions of the Navy while a prisoner, and give him due honors for bravery, I can't think of anything else he has done for this country.
Maybe thats enough, but my respect for him is fading with every move he makes.
