Jim March gets used by Comedy Central...

Sort of reminds me of Rosie's ambush of Tom Selleck several years ago - although Tom was able to comport himself rather well, IMHO. Sounds like Jim was set up like a bowling pin. No, that's not right - he was set up like a bowling pin. This is the best the bliss-ninnies can do? Invite someone on for a serious discussion then ambush them using the marvels of editing and turning off mic's/cameras when their intended victim won't roll over and play dead? I don't think I've ever had Comedy Central on, but may have to make it a point to catch this just to remind myself how low the oppostion is really willing to go...

Well, Comedy Central is about the last place you'd want to have a serious discussion on RKBA. Not to mention they skew fairly liberal (especially with things like "The Daily Show"). I like Insomniac, though.

The whole point is they sandbagged Mr. March. The [unbelievably foul and offensive character assassinations deleted] didn't let on that this was a Comedy Central production. He walked in on good faith and these puerile [more gross ad hominem slanders deleted] yukked it up at his expense. I micturate upon them all from a great height.

I hope Mr. March cuts 'em wide, deep and often.

Tactless, indeed.

Entertainment on the tube has taken a decidedly puerile bent of late, since all these "reality" shows took over. Those, and the "World's _____est ______!" video clip shows.

I keep myself comforted by:

1) Watching as little of the telly as possible.
2) Hoping that that little "Scare your soon-to-be-ex-friends!" show hosted by that washed-up chick from 90210 becomes the host of the first nationally-televised DGU. ;)

You and me both, Tamara.

Can't stand to watch that show. When I saw it, I kept waiting for one of the people not to panic, but just get a serious look on their face that obviously means "I hope my lawyer is awake".

From reading Jim's posts on THR, it sounded like he nearly had that thought at the taping of this show.

That really bites.

Jim's a pretty handy guy with research. I can't believe he didn't check into the show before hand. Amazed that it didn't come out when he got in the audience.

I'm not second guessing Jim, by any means. Just pointing out that, if he can be conned, each of us has to look real careful when someone offers us a TV or Radio spot. At SWAT, we've been approached for resources from Fox News to the local Palm Beach NBC affiliate....in each case we check it out as thoroughly as possible. But once they have the film in the can, you're basically at their mercy.

That interview you did about the sniper stuff a while back was pretty good though. It came off pretty well on our side.

Thanks Jeeps-
That's only because Cary Champion spent a half hour off camera with me and got to know me a bit. Another reporter might have had a completely different angle.

I'm just going to cross-post what I wrote on THR here:

One of the guys on that show is a friend of a family member. We're trying to put him in touch with Jim directly right now.

I'd appreciate it if everyone would chill out a bit until Jim can get to talk with the people he needs to talk to and see what's up. Lets not start something we can't control until they get a chance to talk and we're clear about what is going on.

Thanks.

Gabe-
I personally know a cop that they conned into a gig that nearly cost him his career. They claimed they were just doing makeup for a show and wound up filming him being made up like a girl, while in the police cruiser. Wasn't funny either.

I doubt there was conspiracy or agenda behind this also. But it's lowest common denominator humor. I don't usually find it funny. And while you have every right to defend your friend, I still question the ethics of his career choice. Funny is when you can make someone laugh at themselves. Not funny is when everyone laughs at that person's personal expense.

Candid Camera was funny. This show is simple pandering.

I have not seen the show, but my understanding is that it is of the former variety. We'll see.

I'm not necessarily defending the actions of the show. I'm just suggesting that until everyone get a chance to explain themselves, we don't start the lawsuit machine.

You may be right, fix. If Jim didn't give his consent, I don't see how it could go ahead...but then again, I don't work in Hollywierd.

We are informing the guy on the show that they have pissed off what amounts to a very large, very well-connected pit bull in Jim March and I'm sure they'll want to talk to Jim and sort this out. ;)

My letter to the Debate Show

To: erika@debateshow.com
Subject: Jim March on the Debate Show

Dear Erika,

If you'd researched Jim March's background a bit further, you might have found out that he's been actively involved in the meticulous study of the creation and application of the law, both as an avid hobbyist and paid professional, for several years, and is a highly respected activist in the gun rights effort.

I'd almost feel sorry for you, considering the can of legal and publicity whoop-ass he's shaking up for you right now, if you weren't such a bunch of sophmoric fraudsters.

-Michael Pelletier.

The bread and butter of Comedy Central is sandbagging unsuspecting folks who believe they are being legitimately interviewed by a news reporter on some matter of current import. The resulting tape is completely edited sometimes with the interviewer asking a question that, based on the editing, anyone with any audio/visual arts background can see was not part of the original interview but an insert. The interviewee then profers a response to the original question which, in answer to the insert, is a non sequitur a best and embarassingly ridiculous at worst. John Stewart's "The Daily Show" uses this technique and other editing ploys to polk fun at (insult) the interviewee.

The process is most often employed against those with generally conservative views regarding firearms ownership, hunting, anti-abortion, Christian faith, parenting, etc.

I would encourage TFLers to watch "The Daily Show" sometime and get the drift of my comments. The left wing bias is palpable. Just listen to the studio audience. The so called "main stream media" positively gush over John Stewart, the new "Dem Darling" of the DNC and their ilk.
