Jeff Cooper

He's right. The great Glock vs. 1911 debate is a religious debate. Some people love Glocks and are good with them. Some people love 1911s and are good with them. Jeff Cooper loves 1911s but is wise enough to know that the Glock is a good gun. I agree with him that the 1911 is what I like better, but more power to you Glockers.

Now what you won't find Col. Cooper doing is endorcing the 9 mm cartridge. He's a .45 guy.

It is amazing to hear him say anything nice about a pistol besides a 1911. He is still a big "45acp is the best" fan

I like the Glock, too, but the 45 ACP version is like holding a 2X4. I stick with the Glock for 40 and below and the Colt for 45 ACP

With my big meat hooks, I LOVE that big grip on my G21! :D

And I think the point is that the gun is almost always more accurate than the shooter, and I'm sure the Colonel would be just as satisfied with the results that could be generated from a Sig P220, CZ97, or Ruger P97.

Glad that there are so many options available so we can each find what works for us!

Actually according to his column in G&A, he is not to keen on the CZ97. I think it was due to the fact that it is bigger and heavier than a 1911.

"***anything nice about a pistol besides a 1911."

Well, in fact he's said quite a lot of nice things about the CZ75.

You may recall that the 10m Bren Ten was virtually a CZ on steroids, quite a radical departure (at the time) from the prevailing 1911-pattern design.

No matter how you feel about Col. Cooper, you have just got to admire the man's way with a pen.

(Personally I have learned a great deal from him).

I find the COL is right on the money. When he's not pi**ing me off, that is. This is one of those moments when he has it right. It's the shooter, not the gun, that wins the fight. Assuming a quality arm that is, and there are several of them out there. The Glock v. 1911 debate gets soooooooo old. I like them both, and own one of each.

I think it does NOT matter what kind of gun ... as long as you survive. If it goes bang EVERY time, and you can hit your intended target, then its a good one. My wife thinks I like 'em all!
Mark.

While I have not always agreed with everything he has said, I think he is one of the greatest Americans around and we owe him a lot for his contributions to pistolcraft, as well as The Art of The Rifle. In the current anti-terrorist "war", it is interesting to go back and read again the first chapters in his book "TO RIDE, SHOOT STRAIGHT, AND SPEAK THE TRUTH". Realizing the book was copyrighted in 1990, it is really interesting to read the first paragraph: "Why do you suppose the creeps of the world have declared open season on Americans? Are we not the posterity of Patrick Henry and George Washington and Nathan Hale and Buck Travis and George Custer and Teddy Roosevelt and George Patton?"
Jeff Cooper was a hero in his own life in his service as a Marine officer also -- some of which was related in his book "ANOTHER COUNTRY".
If it appears I have all his books, I think I do. He is a hero to me!
:D
