I find this odd, maybe someone knows what's up with this. Here in IL to buy ammunition you have to display your FOID card. No big deal usualy, you just hold it up, they see you have it, they ring you up.
Well a month or so ago I was in Jacksonville IL and I bought some trap loads that were on sale at a farm store. Nice old lady at the register asked to see my FOID and started writing down my info in a log book. I asked her why and she said they had to log all ammo sales and that it was the law. I queried her further as I'd never heard of such a law, she didn't seem to know much about it just that they could get in big trouble if they got 'audited'.
I found that whole thing odd but I sort of shrugged it off. A lot of retail stores have odd little policies about these things and the employees often don't know the difference between policy and law... actually scratch that most people don't seem to.
So maybe a week later I bought some ammo at a sporting goods store in the same town and they pulled out their logbook and did the same exact thing, telling me it was the law again. Totaly different chain this time. The only commonality was that both times it was in Jacksonville, IL. I'm wondering if this is a local city or Morgan County ordinance. Nowhere else in IL have I ever encountered such a thing.
Now I don't really worry much that people know I'm buying trap loads, but something about this logging just doesn't sit right with me. Anyone here know anything about it?
