Anyone know what the black part at the back is called on the grip and where I can get some?

Im guessing its only to make the grip a bit longer front to back only.

Thanks in advance.

I've been thinking about using some double sided tape with strips of leather to accomplish the same thing, but haven't gotten around to it. I have a feeling it would want to creep over to one side after some use, and not look too sporty either.

There are grips that cover the backstrap which would increase the length of pull to the trigger. Helpful if you feel like you have too much trigger finger sticking through. There's the good old Pachmayr Compaq with an added pinky rest.

I went a road less travelled and ordered a Taurus (yes you heard me) small revolver grip and drilled 2 partial holes to fit the pin on a J frame. It added length of pull, didn't add to grip length (no pinky rest), covered the backstrap, and has a more rectangular feel rather than rounded which helps me index better and resists lateral movement. Feels kind of like a single stack pocket semi-auto. Best of all it was like 12 bucks.

Hogue makes The Tamer Grip for J-Frames. It's just a bit longer than the Stock Grips. It reduces felt recoil nicely. It fit my hand well. I can shoot my 442 Three times longer than befor.

I ended up putting a set of Pachmeyer (sp?) combat grips on my J frame Model 36 - made all the difference in the world. I started out using the factory wood grips that were originally on it - after about 150 rounds at the range, my hands were SORE. The grips I changed out to are a good grip (for my hands) and I could comfortably shoot it all day long now.
