J-frame grip question

Hi folks,
I realize the answer may be the obvious, but what is the difference between round butt j-frames and non-round butt (square?) j-frames?

I'm thinking of getting some wood grips and all of the one's I've seen so far say 'for round butt j-frames'. When I take the factory boot grip off, the butt of mine is flat or square.

Also, any grip recommendations would be great. Thanks!

Hoppy, the round or sq. butt designation refers to the backstrap and not the bottom of the grip frame. If the backstrap curves toward the muzzle from its midpoint then it is a round butt. If the slope of the backstrap remains straight all the way to the bottom of the grip frame it's a sq. butt. Most J-frame revolvers are round butts which are easier to conceal. N-frames use to all be square butts until the last few years, K-frames with 4" or shorter barrels can be either with the longer barrel versions usually being square butt. Hope this helps.;

Uncle Mike's boot grips for the J-frames are also quite nice. If you put them on a stainless steel gun, you have as low-maintenance a rig as anyone could ask. And attractive looking, too.

Thanks Guys,
I like the factory boot grip alot, it's very comfortable. It's a little sticky on clothing, other than that it's great. Mine's a model 60, so it's stainless and is a great low maintenance revolver.
Thanks again!

If you don't want tacky grips go with a set of Eagle "Secret Service" grips. They are amazingly comfortable and can be had in either checkered or smooth rosewood.
