J Frame finish issues

I just acquired a Model 642 wiith the matte silver finish for ccw. I have read where other owners have experienced cracking of the clear finish on the frame when using certain solvents; what's a safe product to use??

I haven't had problems with CLP breakfree.

Nor have I with Hoppes # 9.

I was concerned about that too. My frame has likely been exposed to: Outer's gun oil, Outer's nitro solvent, Eezox, Ballistol, Clenzoil, Rem oil, over the last few years. No flaking of the clear coat. HOWEVER, I don't generally apply them to the frame, only the barrel and cylinder. I rub the frame clean with a rag - which usually doesn't get fouled up anyways except by the corners of the top strap and around the forcing cone.

Regular hopps and mil-tec oil is what I use and I've never had any problems.

I've used Hoppes #9 on my 642 since buying it in 2008, and have had zero problems.

I normally use M-Pro-7 as a cleaner and Militec 1 as a lube for my handguns. I should be safe, then. Just didn't want to screw up the new investment. Thanks, all, for weighing in.
