IWB Bianchi and safety position

Hey folks,
I recently purchased an IWB Bianchi pistol pocket and am having some serious doubts about using it.
It seems that the metal snap of the retention strap rides directly on the safety of the 1911 and actually pushes the safety off.
I know, keep your finger off of the trigger, but I am more than a bit uncomfortable with a cocked and NOT locked pistol aimed at my butt cheek.
Any suggestions?

I've never had that happen...when does seem to be happening: when you holster the pistol, or after it has been holstered for a while and you discover it that way?

I admit I'm stumped, and I've used two different sizes of that holster for several years.

Further input

When holstering, as the retention strap is pressed closed, the safety will be clicked off. A little thumb action will press the safety back up, but after wearing the holster for awhile, when pulling the rig off of my belt, I find that the safety has once again been disengaged. From the press snap rubbing against me...?
Not really happy.

Can you contact Bianchi about the problem? Maybe something is out of spec with the holster you recieved and they could replace it. I seriously doubt they would want you using a holster that takes off your safety ...

Yes, that is correct.

Yes, looking back at the packaging insert, Bianchi indicates that the holster has been designed to be used with the hammer down. Condition three or two.

Great.

Thanks for your input, maybe I'll just use a sharp blade, a burnishing tool and a wee bit of dark brown dye and end up without the retention strap.

Wow. Not only does Bianchi want you to carry the pistol in a very "un" ready condition, but they also want you to strap it in on top of that.

If a pistol is carried that way, and it's "supposed" to be for self defense, about all you'd be doing is carefully protecting the weapon so that when it is acquired by the BG, it will be in perfect, unused condition.

Who is this "Bianchi" anyway, and what the hell was he thinking?

Hunter, I don't think I'd want to mess with that holster at all. Just cut your losses, toss it, and go with a REAL holster such as something along the lines of a Summer Special made by a REAL holster maker.

I think if the holster retains the pistol well, just cut off the "snap tab" and use it until you have the $100 or so for a good one. It should hold it plenty secure unless you do flips and summer-saults.

I tried the cheap route more than once AND ALWAYS GO FOR BETTER. You think I would have learned the first time.

I agree, cut the strap off. One of my first holsters was a Pistol Pocket for a 1911 and the strap did the same thing with my guns safety. It wasnt the snap as much as the strap. I tried trimming it at first, and the just cut it off and the strap was more of an annoyance.

If I was you, I'd take this question over to the leather holster experts on CombatCarry.com . Not only do most of the custom holstermakers post there, but many of the manufacturer's reps check in from time to time.

It's a friendly place, and truly expert advice is available.
