Iver Johnson TP 22?

I've always wanted a small, double-action .22 auto like a Walther TPH. Today I was in a gun shop and looked at a used Iver Johnson TP 22. It is pretty used, but appears to be of decent quality. I suspect it is pretty old. They want about $100 for it, but I think I could get it for less (I think its been there quite awhile). Does anyone have experience with these? I'd been thinking of getting one of the FEG Mark II .22s (Hungarian clones of the Walthers), but I could probably get this for less, and it is smaller (more like a TPH, but not as thin). I don't want it if its made of "pot metal" or otherwise really junk, but if it is a solid gun I may make them an offer.

I had one once. Nice, reliable little gun right up until the day it slamfired on me while I was loading it. The one and only gun I've ever had an ND with. Save your money and get something better.

I had one for many years - bought it in the early eighties when they first came out. It was a nice gun. I sold it last year, will never sell another. It seemed to like CCI ammo the best. Got $60 on the sale/trade. Iver-Johnson is out of business, which is one reason I sold it. It was a lot better than the 'cheap' .22's. I wish I had it back.

Greetings DougB, I too had one, bought NIB somewhere in the early 80's. Never had a problem with it; and it was very reliable.
Only thing is, I lost the gun when my wife's
car was carjacked on October 13th, of 1994.
Listed as STOLEN on NCIC data base. Would
love to have it back, serial # was AE23221.
Good gun for the $100.00 investment that you
are speaking of. :)

I had an Iver Johnson TP-22 bearing their Arkansas address which worked great with hypervelocity .22's. It sometimes hung up on standard velocity rounds, so I stuck with CCI Stingers, Remington Yellow Jackets, and the like. I recall reading an article once that said older production TP-22's showing a different address on the slide (New Jersey perhaps, don't recall...) frequently malfunctioned.
