I recently inherited an Iver Johnson .32, top break, dual post, external hammer, serial number T37140. Can anyone tell me when it was manufactured?

Thanks!

In the year of our Lord, 1909, First year of using the new stronger smokeless frame, so if it is in other wise good condition,it should be safe to use modern ammo.

1909?? Wow. I never would have thought it was that old considering the serial number starts with a "T". I've been under the impression that when Iver Johnson started using letters in the serial numbers they started with "A". Someone told me that "A" through "G" are black powder.

Thank you for your reply!

Iver Johnson use of letters is confusing, They used A in 1896 and 1897, took a break and used it again in 1909 until1913, then on the same series of gun they jumped to " G ". They used different letters for different series of guns, hence in one years time, 6 different guns may have 6 different letter codes. They did not use one certain letter for one certain year.
