Iver Johnson 32 S&W 1st Model

Hi all,
I have a very nice Iver Johnson 32 S&W 1st Model. I know that the cylinder is designed to be free wheeling till trigger is pulled in DA or hammer cocked in SA mode. At that point the cylinder locks up tight to fire. My question is, were these meant to have all 5 rounds fired in succession, or could you fire one or two rounds and reholster? If reholstered like that, what would keep the cylinder from free wheeling in such a manner that an empty chamber might come up?
By the way, the pistol locks up safely and is in time. I also had the proper BP rounds loaded by Gadson Custom Cartridges, so OK on that front! Also had beautiful holster made for it by Bob Mernickle.
Thanks for any replies,
Unkei

"...what would keep the cylinder from free wheeling..."

Nothing on the IJ with a transfer bar, and that was a drawback. On the H&R and other guns, the firing pin resting in the fired primer keeps the cylinder from rotating, but the transfer bar requires that the firing pin retract and that is done by its spring. Later, IJ modified the cylinder stop to act like that on the S&W, locking the cylinder when the hammer was down..
