I've narrowed it down to two--Beretta Cougar .45 or Springfield Champion...

The two cost basically the same money (less than a $50 difference). Two completely different styles. Both new in the box. Cougar 8045F is blue. Champion .45 is stainless. Any suggestions on which way I ought to go? I'm buying one or the other from the same dealer. This will be a sometime carry gun, often time range gun...

I love the look and feel of both guns. They fit my hand equally well. The Cougar's a little lighter in weight, but no more than I carry a gun, that's not a real big consideration. Their really different looking designs and I was wondering about other people's experiences and choices...

Thanks for your insight.

Just don't tell my wife...

Gremlin,I can't attest for the Springfield but can for the Beretta. I have two Cougars in .40 and .45 . They are both fine handguns and good shooters. Both easy to take down for cleaning. As far as the finish it is called Bruntion, something like that and is pretty durable. At least in my opinion. They are good guns and I feel a good value for the money. As far as the Springfield the only thing I could say is that it is Stainless and I like Stainless guns.Hope this helps, Let us know what you get.
By the way I won't tell your wife if you don't tell mine that I just bought an AK

Happy Shooting :)

Well just to add more fuel to the fire. I hate the hammer drop safteys berretta started using, so I would go with Springfield, but I also had not having the second strike and having to keep it cocked and locked. But in springfields favor, I had to use their warranty once, and the backed up their gun no hassle at all.

If it were me, I'd consider the full size Springfield 1911 (milspec or "loaded"), rather than the Champion.

I'd probably go for the Beretta, but it would have to be DAO... I hate slide mounted safeties.
