I've Got the Front Sight Wiggles

Country Boy

After breaking in with practice rounds and carry rounds, I started carrying my Springfield 1911-A1 instead of my BHP. However, now I've noticed that the front sight wiggles slightly front to back (muzzle to hammer), with no side-to-side play.

Is this something that happens often?

Is this a problem that can be simply fixed?

How expensive would it be (ballpark figure) to get a gunsmith to cut a channel and install a dovetailed front sight?

I'm not new to guns, but this isn't a problem I've ever had in the past. Any advice would be appreciated.

Country Boy, it sounds to me like you are about to lose it. A 1911 sight that is staked in properly doesn't move. The fix would be to either replace the stake-on sight or as you mentioned have a dovetail sight installed. In my shop it's $15 plus the sight for the staked type and $35 plus the sight for the dovetail type. I think I'm about average. If you don't have anyone near you that can handle it e-mail me. I'd be happy to do it for you. George
