A new wave of gun control has come to New Zealand under the new "Labour" & "Alliance" [aka Socialist]Coalition government.
Including:full registration of all A class arms [Rifles and Shotguns]and a ban in sale/trade of E class arms [Military, Style, Semi-Automatics or M.S.S.A's] with the Government as the only approved buyer [no "buy-back" just long term theft].
Police Minister George Hawkins stated "they're weapons we don't necessarily need in the community and we will move to get them back".Well George, someone obviously brought them all in the first place, so there must be some need.M.S.S.A's are virtually never used in any crimes.Meanwhile murderers get life [that's 7 years], it's a joke.
M.S.S.A's are already registered and tightly controlled under previous legislation.REGISTRATION EQUALS CONFISCATION IN ACTION.
Also the creation of an independent firearms authority [the KIWI B.A.T.F ?] to implement registration.
The annoying aspect of this is that NZ gun-owners recently overwhelmingly defeated this same legislation from the past and defeated National Party Government.Only to see the new government resurrect it, in an even more virtulent form.
Me and my hunting mates are going to have to restart our letter writing campaign [it was successful last time] and wait for the next election, it's very dishearting.Better finish my Uni essay [Airpower/Mil History] and change the oil in my Cruiser, before I depress myself to much.

P.S. An M.S.S.A. is defined as a semi-automatic center-fire rifle with 7 round capacity or rim-fire with 15 round capacity. or with any one of the following features
Bayonet lugs
Flash hider
Pistol Grip
yes, this means my Ruger 10/22 with a "Banana" mag is an M.S.S.A. weapon, but my Uncle's Browning B.A.R. 7mm Rem Mag is not a "deadly black rifle".
