It's offical-H&K is bought by Colt-Will stop civilian gun sales

Keep in mind that these are all public companies. All the news has been saying is "intent to aquire". British Aerospace is a public company and must do what is in the best interest of its stock holders, since it is a letter of intent, a better offer may come from another company. It's not over till the fat lady sings and this song has just started. Colt is also bankrupted, Don Zilkha's investment firm has to find investors and banks to get the money. Tomorrow, when we get up in the morning, HK will still be owned by British Aerospace.

Robert

You make a good point, but Brit Aero. loves the offer and wants to limit its lawsuit liability. NBC is reporting that Colt will actually turn a profit this year. If it buys H&K it will turn a loss, from restructuring, but it will own our friend H&K. The fat lady is starting to sing, but we can pray for a miracle. Later

The words coming from our trusted media ;) are a bit more down to earth now. I just read a report on CNN and the were saying that "Colt is trying to buy HK" and that this deal may take as much as a year to happen. It still must be negotiated. HK's motivation, they claim, is the lawsuits. Lots can happen in a year. Personally, I say, the heck with both of them. If they are not going to support us, why support them.

Robert

Colt was supposedly hurt by its past antiRKBA
actions. If the sale takes a long time -
isn't enough time for civilian purchases to totally cease. No AR-15s, SAAs or whatever.
No Colt knives or tee-shirts.

Nothing to do with HK products either.

Let them survive on sales to the government.

You have to be blind to ever have anything
to do with Colt again.

The problem is not with COLT, which is a corporate name.

While there may well be a legitimate complaint with some or all of their products, their pricing, and marketing decisions and such, the crux of the matter lies in and with the ownership and management of the company, or so it seems to me.

This is the newswire I just received. I had no idea that the owner of Colt was anti-gun. I own a few Colt's, this makes me sick to my stomach.-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Neal Knox from http://www.nealknox.com has reported the following:

The long-discussed deal for Colt's to buy Heckler and Koch from
British Aerospace is about to become a reality. An agreement has
been signed, but will have to be approved by various agencies.

Colt says it plans to drop commercial sales of H&K handguns, as it
has dropped most of its handguns.

In 1998 40 percent of Colt's revenue came from commercial firearms,
after the acquisition of H&K, that's expected to drop to 18 percent.

[Comments below from Chris W. Stark]

The revelation is not new of Colt's owner contributing several
thousand dollars to anti-gun Senator Charles Schumer's campaign,
and many thousands of dollars to the Democratic Senatorial
Campaign Committee, in which anti-gun Frank Lautenberg, Daniel
Moynihan, Diane Feinstein Barbara Boxer and Ted Kennedy draw
their campaign funds.

Then, we reported on 10/09/1999, most of Colt's handgun line
have been recently discontinued (except to Military and Police)
and will not be sold to the general public. Of course, we also
learned of a meeting in Washington D.C., 27 September 1999
between major handgun makers and the attorneys general of New
York and Connecticut, and Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell. Smith
& Wesson, and officials from Sturm, Ruger & Company, Colt's
Manufacturing, O. F. Mossberg & Sons, Taurus, Glock and Beretta
reportedly began negotiating their way out of lawsuits by
governmental agencies, at this meeting.

Negotiate? What is there to negotiate? The 2nd Amendment is a firm
right (not a privilege) "inherited" by birth!

And now, Colt's owner wants to purchase Heckler & Koch?

NOT GOOD NEWS!

We have also heard that Colt's owner is making overtures to several
other gun manufacturers. If this man "gobbles up" a large share of
gun manufacturers, we as private consumers will predictably find
the cost of handguns skyrocketing, with shortages looming.

IF SOME OF YOU ARE COLT OR HECKER & KOTCH COLLECTORS, YOU MAY WANT
TO LET THEM KNOW OF YOUR DISGUST, AND HOW YOU WILL NOT BE PATRONIZING
THEIR COMPANIES FROM HERE ON OUT! EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INTEREST
IN THEIR PRODUCT, CONTACT THEM! DO NOT LET THIS "CANCER" GROW!

Colt's considers deal to buy European gunmaker
http://www.tampabayonline.net/news/news102i.htm

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Colt's Manufacturing Co. said it is
trying to buy European gunmaker Heckler & Koch in a deal that
would strengthen its position for military contracts.

John Rigas, a partner in a New York investment firm that control's
Colt's, said the group has signed a letter of intent to acquire the
German small arms manufacturer from a Royal Ordnance, a division
of British Aerospace PLC. The deal will cost Colt's about $100
million and is expected to be completed next year, Rigas told The
Wall Street Journal in Wednesday's editions.

Rigas speculated the combined company would be in a solid position
to compete for military-rifle and grenade launcher contracts in
the United States and Europe. Colt's makes those types of weapons
and has substantial back orders from the Pentagon, he said.

The deal requires approval from the U.S. Departments of Defense
and State.

Colt officials were unavailable for comment on Wednesday.

Clive Richardson, a managing director of Royal Ordnance, said a
concern is the uncertainty over the mounting civil litigation
against the gun industry.

Colt's, maker of the famous .45-caliber automatic that was the U.S.
military sidearm of choice for most of this century, said in October
it is discontinuing seven lines of consumer handguns. The company
said the move was forced by lawsuits filed against gun manufacturers
by 28 cities and counties around the country.

Colt's, Heckler & Koch and other gun companies are among those
being sued.
