I got this off of www.boortz.com
Some of you may have noticed that any proposal to cut big government is termed "risky" by the Clinton-Gore spin machine.
Here's Neal Boortz' take on it:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
THIS TOOK GUTS
First rule of politics? Don’t screw with Social Security. The largest single identifiable voting block in this country
is the Wizened Seasoned Citizen Block. They vote --- and the vote in large numbers --- and their two biggest
issues are Social Security and Medicare. They want that money, by God, and anyone who threatens it is in
deep electoral trouble.
Another thing about the senior vote. If someone even suggests to them that a political candidate is threatening
their Social Security, they’ll believe it ... and vote accordingly. For decades Democrats have followed the
formula of making a last-minute charge that Republicans want to mess with Social Security --- end it, cut it ---
whatever. This usually results in a last minute swing of some senior votes to the Democrats. Demagoguery
works.
Well, now George W. Bush touched the third rail. He has actually suggested that younger Social Security
participants be given the opportunity to invest a few percentage points of their Social Security taxes in their own
investment account. The Democratic response? Well, let’s see ..... the stock market has a decades-long record
of returning at least eight percent a year or more ..... while Social Security will have a negative rate of return for
younger workers .... so Al Gore, to nobody’s surprise, calls the plan "risky" and "dangerous."
GORE CALLS THE BUSH PLAN "RISKY." WOW! WHAT A SURPRISE!
It’s more focus group politics. People don’t like danger. People are averse to risk. So, attach those words to a
political opponent and you get votes.
So ... let’s take a look at some other "dangerous and risky" schemes.
Setting forth in the Mayflower.
Landing on Plymouth Rock
Approaching the first Indian
Forming Jamestown Colony
The Boston Tea Party
The Declaration of Independence*
Lexington and Concord
The Revolutionary War
Waiting until you could see the whites of their eyes.
The first flight at Kitty Hawk
The first Mercury flight
The first person to eat an oyster
Sending three men to the moon
Starting a new business
Freedom riders in the South
Registering Blacks to vote in the 1960’s
* Signing the Declaration of Independence turned out to be very risky and dangerous indeed. Many signers lost their property. Some lost their families. Some lost their lives. You have to wonder if Al Gore would have signed the Declaration. Probably not. Too "risky."
Now for some "risky schemes" that have been proposed by Al Gore’s good ole Democratic Party
A one-time seizure of 15% of the outstanding balance of all private pension and 401K plans.
Hillary’s health care plan.
Economically Targeted Investments --- the government telling pension plan administrators and other retirement investors that they must invest their pension funds in government-approved, politically correct
investments such as low-income housing and jobs training programs.
