Ithica O/Uers?

Been considering picking up a better O/U than the Yildez I've been shooting. Was looking mostly at Win 101's but came across an Ithica 500 in pretty decent shape that I could probably walk out with for 500. It's choked F/M so I'd either have tubes added or open to S/S, but other than that it should be good to go. Anyone with any decent experience with these?

The Ithaca/SKB O/U's are VERY serviceable/durable, and as long as it's in good condition, $500 is a very fair price for a Model 500.

.

I would search for an SKB that already has choke tubes. The reason being by the time you have tubes put in you could probably pick up a 505 SKB for close to the same money. You will find these are very dependable guns as far as I am concerned with a pretty smooth trigger. As to the original question, I have a friend thats been running one in trap for years with no mechanical problems.

SKB guns are well made - I have had a few and still have one - a 505

One caveat is that the company in Japan is no longer making guns. GU in Omaha has every single nut bolt, barrel, etc. - they say - to last over 20 years while they are supposedly trying to find a new maker with the tooling to restart production (Nice if that was to happen here - must be plenty of auto and aerospace shops that could be easily adapted)

Well I would hate to have anything that was easy to find parts for. Well I have the 870 and the Contenders but everything else is pretty oddball. I really like the Greener lock up on the Ithica.

The Ithaca/SKB 600 here is a fine gun,John. OTD was $450. There were a few small issues the gun shop cleared up.

Fine gun. If it had choke tubes, it'd be well nigh perfect.

This has chromed bores, easy cleanup, no corrosion.

I'd buy another in a heartbeat....

I'm looking around the auction sites and this one seems to be priced about right for the market. Same shop has a Win 101 tho for $850 that I'm kinda fond of too. Really don't need an O/U, I've decided to just keep shooting skeet with the 311's and the 870 works just fine for trap, but a vintage O/U would look nice in the collection. Also ran into a Stevens 440(?) for $400 at the gunshow this weekend. It would go nicely with the 311's and it appeared to be very well made as well.
