My uncle has a model 37 pump and there is a little ring on the top of the forend which is like a retainer.....when you cock the gun down the little retainer comes loose. If we hammer it down on the forend it stays temporarily but not for long because we have been through this many times.... we cannot find a new retainer for it so I am wondering if there is some kind of glue or something that will hold it on.......before anyone says we should take it to the gunsmith we just got back from the gunsmith and he said he will be way to busy to take in any more guns until after january. So what kind of glue could we use to glue this metal retainer to the forend?

Epoxy.
Clean the inside of the ring to remove all oil, and clean any grease off the wood.
Apply a coat of wax to the outside of the ring, and the front of the wood. Any where you DON'T want the epoxy to stick.
Use auto wax or Johnson's Paste Wood Floor Wax.
Apply and DON'T wipe off.
Get a good mix on the epoxy and put some inside the ring.
Tap down in place, and put in a warm place to harden.
When the epoxy sets up about the consistency of rubber, use a plastic or brass "knife" blade to trim any excess that's oozed out from under.

You can buy epoxy at Wal-Mart and any hardware store.
The "Five Minute" type will do the job just fine as long as you work reasonably fast.
If you're worried about the time, you can buy slower cure epoxy that takes at least an hour to start to harden.
Both are readily available in many stores.
Apply wax to prevent the epoxy from running or oozing out and getting on areas you don't want it.
You can even use shoe wax, as long as you are careful not to wipe it off, or disturb the coating.
Measure the epoxy carefully. The more accurate the mix, the stronger.
Mix the epoxy for about one full minute.
The bottom of a soda or beer can makes a good mixing "bowl".
Apply a little more than you think you need, and gently tap the end cap on the wood.
Be carefully about epoxy squirting out when you tap it.
Before the epoxy fully hardens, clean off any excess, then let harden 24 hours.
Clean all the wax off, and put a little oil on the steel cap.
