Recently given the gun my dad purchased back in the 50's, looking for value, the gun was sent back to the factory to be reworked a decade or so back. Not sure where the serial number in located. Did locate the following number on the underside of the barrel next to the receiver. 461181-2 Gun is still in good condition

Your M 37 was made in 1952 the -2 means it is a Modified choke. The serial number is on the receiver as well. and will match the barrel number. It is on the front of the receiver on the left where it meets the barrel and mag tube.

M37 20 ga

Thanks for the info guys, value is not that important as I could not part with it anyway. I cannot find the serial number on the receiver anyplace. The writing on the barrel is as follows Ithaca Gun Co. Inc. Ithaca N.Y. -patent no. 1849992-model-37 FEATHERLIGHT R (in circle) 20 ga- 2 3/4 chamber - MADE IN USA Underneath that is the word TESTED and MOD
No other numbers that I can see anywhere on the gun.

The pre-855,000 SN recievers had...

the SN on the narrow right front receiver face.
Some then had the SN on the right receiver side above the trigger BUT without the "37" prefix.

new made barrels can be fitted to the receiver only for that specific one.

Or the new Ithaca has complete redo for their barrels.

Value....

All I can vouch for is what they sell for here in Bama - one in "good" shape like you described usually goes for 300-400.

Thanks jaughtman I was just wondering about value. It would never be sold by me. When my sons inherit it I don't know. Its a great long range slug gun for deer. My dad killed several deer with it. I think I will take it to the woods this season and do the same.
