Italian Gun Control

a litle Italian tid bit from a new Italian Friend of Mine.....

=============
"As you
may know, those who want to get a gun need a permit from one government
officer. Moreover, they have an arbitrary power in giving you the permit to
carry firearms - this means that, if _they_ decide you have no reason to
have an arm with yourself, you can't legally carry it. Gun control is really
strict here around. This is why we are SO few. I'll keep you informed about
our activity.

Cheers,

Ironic.

The process there sounds like the system they have in New York City under the Sullivan law of 1911. Back then the law was loosely applied, unless of course you were Italian. According to a law review journal I read (Tennessee Law Review, Spring 1995, I think) folks prosecuted under that statute had Italian names 75% of the time.

Today in New York, if you want a gun you have to have a reason. "I keep getting mugged." To which the bored bureaucrat responds, "So?"
