I envision using each of the following paragraphs from that article as a 2x4 and smacking between the eyes those ninnies who still chant "you don't need a gun because the police will protect you".

"The brother told reporters . . . that his family had feared an attack for months and sought police protection from the suspect, first in August and again on the eve of the shooting. Police confirmed that the family had requested protection and that the request had been denied."

"We asked the police again for protection" the night before the shooting, the brother said. "We didn't get it."

"He said his brother also had called a police hotline minutes before the shooting because he feared he was about to be attacked.
Police spokeswoman Gerda Preusting said police protection was not provided because there were insufficient grounds to justify it."

And then, the ultimate bureaucratic response -- "Dutch lawmakers vowed to further tighten laws that already make it difficult to obtain guns of any kind."
