This morning just after breakfast, my wife and I, ventured into our front yard and did something unusual.

We hung our countries flag. Together as husband and wife, we nailed the holes and bolted the brackets, put the flag pole together and then proudly raised OLD GLORY to a warm Texas breeze.

We have been married for almost 12 years and this is the first time we have ever hung a flag out our home. Maybe it was because we have just purchased our first home and the Amercian dream is alive within us. Maybe it is because we fear that these colors of our great Nation will not be around long. Maybe it was out of guilt for not standing up for freedom, America and our two precious children. Maybe it was out of sorrow, seeing the decline of a once proud Nation and wondering if our children and grand children will appreciate or even know what it was really like to be an American.

Has America falling like the dollar in value? I remember my Father and Grandfather telling stories and then footnoting them by saying that was back when a dollar was worth a dollar.

Is it that way with America? Has the United States of America fallen and become worth less than she was 50 years ago. Are freedom , liberty and patriotism merely footnotes to be used to say When America was REALLY AMERICA?

What is to become of Old Glory, is she waving to an ungrateful nation? Are her colors lacking in respect, love and dignity?

When you drive down the street and see her waving, do you smile and wave back? Do you even notice her, do you even care?

Did my wife and I waste our morning displaying our Countries Colors? Are we to old fashion and thus eccentric now in our partiotism?

Today, there seems to be an assault on those who display Old Glory, because we are said to be extremist, and out of touch with reality.

When you see a home displaying Old Glory, what is the first thought that comes to your mind? Do you think there is a home full of extremists?

I am sorry to invade your computer with my ramblings, but you know, flying Old Glory makes me proud to be an American, I only wish we had flown her sooner.

God Bless you all, may God in his wisdom grant each of us the courage to face tomorrow with dignity, hope and freedom.

Yours sincerely,

Judge Blackhawk

I've noticed the complete lack of Old Glory waving in the morning breeze. At work, we have a flag pole, and it's properly lit at night if they wanted to fly the Flag 24hrs. Yet it's completly barren. No Flag, just the sound of the latch hitting the side of the pole. It's kind of an empty feeling, just hearing the latch each night yet the pole being barren. A feeling of loss. But yet I see many flags flying every day. flags with company logos, flags of sickening "art" such as fruit and teddy bears flapping in the summer breeze. flags that symbolize money (the corporate flags) and "art" seem to have become the norm while the Flag that represents, or should represent, our once Great Nation sits upon selves, gathering dust. The VFW here doesn't and isn't going to display a Flag for the 4th. To most, it's just a day that they don't have to work, they can get drunk and burn meat on the BBQ. Then, as night comes, the fireworks are displayed. Yet no one stands with a tear in their eye, thinking and thanking our forefathers for their insight and deliverence from the crown of england. No, it's just a chance to get drunk, burn meat and watch loud poppy things flying in the air. The Fourth of July is not about independence any longer, the same as Washington's birthday is no longer a tribute to the birth of a nation carring out its' newly formed Constitution. I'd read somewhere that one of our forefathers made the statement that the 4th should be celebrated with parades, fireworks, and guns being shot into the air to celebrate the day we broke away from the crown and created the experiment that we have let fail today. I'm out of the military but I still feel the need to pay my respects to the Flag when I see her waving in the slight breeze. I love to watch her furl and unfurl while hanging from the pole. I get a tear in my eye when I stand and watch her. One tear for thanks from what our forefathers did for us and many others after them. For the lives lost in her defense, for those who still live but have the painful memories that come with freedom. Also one tear for the failure of today. The state that us Americans have let happen with no, or little, fight. The failure of the American people to carry on this experiment and prove to the world that it really works. The failure of the American people to ensure that America stands for another 200 plus years with all it's original morals and values intact.

Yes Judge Blackhawk, I applude you. For out of millions of people who just live in America, but don't wish to stand up for her, you have decided to become a True American and fly Old Glory with honor in your heart, with pride in your family, and with the true sense of America that most, if not all, people have forgotten.

It's great you are flying the flag. Just fly it correctly---upside down because this country is in deep, deep trouble.

As long as I've owned a home there has always been an American flag flying proudly in front of it. :D And it always will :D
When one wears out, there is always a new one to take its place and the old one properly disposed of.
When I look at the flag at a ceremony of sort with the Star Bangled Banner playing it just sends a shiver down my spine. I think our flag is one of the proudest emblems of our great country.
Just my thoughts :)

Put mine up this morning too, just like yesterday. I always fly it leading up to the Fourth of July and all weekend for other patriotic holidays. My wife and I got ours when we bought our home as well.

There's nothing like the feeling of flying old glory in front of your home.

On my street, almost everyone has a flag flying on their house. Even the three gay men next door to me and the liberal lady with the purple hair on my other side (she is an art teacher). Nobody thinks I am an extremists, and for g-d sakes I don't think my neighbors are either.

Only two flags up on my block. My house and my brother's down the street.

Must be genetic.

Judge, yes, sadly I think this country's greatest days are now behind us. Our journey toward socialism or "mobocracy" is inevitible at this point.

IMO, the Regan years were the last of the real America. The end began with Bush Sr. selling us out on more than one issue. Then there was Klinton - you know the rest...

I do not look at this subject as an ekection issue but rather as a long term "trend" issue. Look at our direction. We are going down a road barren of intelligence, morals, responsibility and any sense of patriotism and our schools and media are fueling the journey.

As far as the flag, I've had one for years but I have not displayed it for the past 5 years out of total disgust. About 2 months ago I just couldn't stand it any longer and now have it flying 24/7. I missed seeing her blowing in the breeze but I also am saddened by the fact that she, or what she represents, will be gone soon, in one way or another.
