issues with FNX 45 Tac

is anyone having issues with their FNX 45 Tactical either stovepipping or not feeding at all. I purchased this pistol a couple months back and haven't even put 300 rounds through it. The only ammo i've used is some regular Federal 230 grain FMJ. It chokes every 4 or 5 rounds clip after clip.

45 ammo being pricey i bought a crap load of federal thinking there shouldn't be any issue cycling the rounds. Is this due to the tolerance on the FN spring that needs breaking in? When i replaced the striker spring on my xd, it stovepipped once, and after a 1000 rounds hasn't had any problems. any similar experience?

This is not a common gun so you may not get too many replies from owners. FN is just about the highest quality manufacturer so not many should have problems. As you already surmise it might not run the ammo you chose, so try a couple of different loads. Winchester White Box or Aguila have generally worked for me, as has Federal American Eagle.

If you contact them, FN may ask what ammo you have tried. Ruger does. If you can say you have had malfunctions with 3 or 4 different loads they will take it for service for sure, though they probably will anyway. But try other loads before going through this hassle.

Does the manual say anything about what ammo to run?

Make sure you are gripping the gun firmly also, with a firm wrist, to let the slide work.

When I got my FNX 45 (not tactical) in 2013 I took it to the range all full of hope...lol.

All I had was a box of Ammo One. This was at a time when ammo was a tad hard to find.

Had lots of problems in the first two magazines (15 rds each) so went into the range shop and paid a fortune for a box of what ever they had.....do not remember what it was.

The gun has fired flawlessly ever since with several thousand rounds of usually 230 gr ammo of all types, EXCEPT Ammo One..lol!

I have Remington, Armscor, Fiocchi, Underwood and Winchester currently that I am shooting. Not a problem since that first day shooting the weapon with that one ammo brand.

Oh, the Ammo One did fire well in my Bersa Thunder 45.

Good luck! Once you get past this problem, I am sure you will truly appreciate the FN gun.

I have an FNX40 and have never had an issue. I probably have a little over a thousand rounds through it or so.

I'd contact them and see what they say.

i feel like i picked an unlucky batch. Their are numerous feeding issues straight out the box associated with this gun when you search the issue on different forums. i'm going to the range tomorrow and run around 250-300 rounds, hopefully if its the recoil spring issues, this will loosen it up.

FN also told me some people who experience this issue lock the slide back for a day to relieve the tension on the recoil spring, but i dont know if i want to do that. They also suggest running all 3 mags so its not a specific mag issue. We will see. thanks for the replies

My FNX-45 has been flawless. How are you loading your mags? Use an Uplula, Tilt the mag back as you load. Give the back of the mag a solid rap on the bench at the range to seat all the rounds to the back of the magazine.

Keep a solid grip on the pistol. Do you know what "Limp Wristing" is?

The FNX-45 is not a finicky pistol.

Snuffy308 ok well thanks for that advice. i don't think i need to explain to you how many years i have experience in shooting. Why is it so hard to ask a legitimate question without receiving a derogatory remark? im just here to learn

First, he said (emphasis added):
If you are an inexperienced shooter.....

You've posted nothing that I can see from which we might infer how experienced you are. If you are experienced, then, of course, as Snuffy put it his comment doesn't apply to you. Is that a problem?

Second, I've seen (in something like 15 years of helping teach beginners) that on occasion if someone is inexperienced and having the sort of trouble you describe having someone who is experienced shoot the gun and/or closely observe the person having the problem can be helpful.

So I don't see his comment as necessarily derogatory.

And of course, if you're not inexperience, as Snuffy said, his comment doesn't apply.

Sneakerh3ad, I think Snuffy could have been clearer in his post, but I don't believe he meant to be offensive. Having someone with more experience shoot the pistol would be a reasonable way for an inexperienced shooter to see if the problem is with the gun or with their technique. That may not apply in your case, but we have no way of knowing that based on fewer than a dozen posts, in most of which you're asking for advice.

Even an experienced shooter might ask a knowledgeable friend to shoot a problem gun, for the sake of a second opinion -- it's a smart thing to do.
