Issue with CZ97B

Hello all,
Took my CZ97B to the range for the first time and as expected, the slide would stay open on the last round. But when I loaded another full magazine and tap in to make sure it was in properly, the slide would drop by itself.

It happened regardless of what magazine I was using.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I'll bet it only happens when you really SLAM the mag in...

Many of us would LOVE to have that feature on many of our guns. I consider it a plus. (This is especially true for those who shoot competitively in IDPA or USPSA.)

Some might argue that it's a functional defect, but I can't think of a situation when I'd have the mag in the gun and not want the slide closed! If I don't want a round in the chamber, I don't put a loaded mag in the gun. A number of my guns have done that since day one -- but not all of them. I wish they all did.
 
What you're describing is a normal and desirable trait for a combat pistol. My G19 Gen 4 does this as well and it speeds up the reload times.
 
It would be great, if it were repeatable and not related to another problem which may bite you at an inopportune moment.

Essentially, when the empty mag is in the gun, it is pushing up on the slide stop. When the loaded mag is in, it is not. Either the mating between the slide stop and slide is no good, or the recoil spring is weak, or??? Something else.

Possibly you are hitting it so hard slamming a fresh mag in that you are jarring it loose, but I don't know.
 
It's probably a clearance issue with the slide stop or associated spring tension.
Since it can happen with any pistol just keep your trigger finger safe while reloading and all will be well.

I was not tapping it hard but when loading a full magazine on the CZ97, you have to push a little hard in order for the mag to lock. Gun only has about 200 rounds on it.

Once the round loaded I did tapped it a little harder just to make sure it wouldn't discharge and it didn't so I am happy about that.

Out of 15 guns including a CZ75 P-01, this is the only one that does this.
But if it is not a safety issue, I am fine with it.

Your 97B, like all B-series CZs, comes equipped with a firing pin safety. Unless the trigger is pulled to the rear, there is no way that the gun can discharge a round, if hit, slammed, dropped, etc.

This is explained in the CZ user's/owner's manual.

It might be desirable but it's not normal in the strictest sense of the word. While I agree with Walt in that I would prefer to have that "feature" on all of my autos (with the exception of the pistols I use for Bullseye competition), if the described issue was normal, you'd likely see it addressed in the owners manual.

You may not want it with a Bullseye gun -- and that is certainly your call. But, I suspect the effect on the gun (in terms of wear or functionality) is the same whether you release the slide manually, or it releases itself automatically.

I've had pistols that do it. I don't overly care for it tbh because it's not something that all my pistols do so I don't rely on it. I use my off hand thumb to hit the slide release when seating a mag so it really doesn't add much time to the process for me.

I have a few pistols that do that, including at least one of my CZ's or clones thereof. It doesn't bother me. I can't even remember for sure which ones do it, other than I am pretty sure one of my Tanfoglio CZ clones does.

Oh... and my Mauser Model 1914 (32acp).

I tap magazines into my CZs regularly and I think I have had this happen once or twice, but it is not at all common. I believe I read that CZ had started upgrading some of their slide stop springs. This issue might explain why.

My bersa will do this if you push the magazine in with any zeal at all.
