Issue Assembling O/U

Good day to all.

I am very new to shotguns/firearms but received a new O/U as a gift after showing interest in clay shooting. I cleaned the shotgun but then ran into an issue when I tried to assemble it: the forend seems to be flush with the barrels but the lever to release the forend does not fully "close" and sticks out. It seems to me that the latch on the interior of the forend is not able to "get over" and "catch onto" the intended piece on the barrels.

I'm not sure if my description of the problem is very clear but any feedback on how I should resolve this issue would be very much appreciated.

I apologize for not mentioning that it is a Browning Citori. I did try to very gently push the lever into place because it seems as though the "hook" on the lever just needs to slip into place. Do you think I should try to put a bit more pressure on the lever to try to get it to snap into place?

Brownings need to be placed into position where the curved aspects mate correctly, and a little grease works wonders. You may have to exert a little force on the lever, but it should mate and fit easily enough

if you really feel you have to apply major force, STOP and pull it off and try again. While it might be stiff it should not be hard

If mine, which is pretty new, is not just perfectly placed it doesn't want to close easily. I remove and replace the fore end and it closes easily.

i have 2 citori brownings

they both still need a little help to make the forearm latch close

1 is a 1975 field gun,,i bought new

the other is a 1992 grade 6 skeet gun i bought new,,it is a purdy thang

make sure you have the hing lubed on the barrel and the slides of the forearm where they contact the receiver

put the barrels on the receiver,,close and latch them

set the forearm into place and push it to the barrels as if you were going to just put it on and latch it in place

the latch is sticking out,, i know it is,, mine do,,even the old one

next with one hand squeeze the barrels and forearm together( i usually place the palm of my hand on the rib and squeeze the barrels and forearm together) while applying a little push to the lever of the latch,,how much squeeze you need will vary with time

my old gun,,that has seen a lot of shells still needs a little,,, while the newer gun still needs a good squeeze the get the latch to close

DO NOT FORCE the latch,, it will close when it is in place and clears the lug on the barrels,,,the latch lever on my skeet gun is still a little stiff i guess is the word,, and so it needs a little help getting closed,, you will see when you do it

the forearms just fit that snug and need a little help getting into position for the latch to close in the lug

hope this helps

+1 on OneOunces comments ...I have a number of Citori O/U's ....

a little bit of grease on the mating parts - might be the trick.

It shouldn't take much force to close the lever...

If that doesn't work ...ask around at your local club for some help ....there has to be dozens of guys there with experience on the Citori that can look at it and see what the problem is...
