Israeli young adults angelic?

Based on conversations with people living in Israel or visiting it, I greemed a few impressions:

- Gun ownership is minimal. Most guns are lend by police or the army but not owned by the Jews.

- Arabs cannot, by and large, borrow guns or buy them.

- The age group most heavily armed (i.e. an M16 and a sidearm) are 18-21 y.o. in and out of the army, both genders.

That last statistic is interesting, as in the US that is just about the most violently criminal age group. Somehow they are more angelic in the Middle East...and I find that hard to believe. What's the explanation, then?

Maybye the younger Israelis remember their Grandparents speaking of the smell of burning flesh from the crematoriums.

Let's hope that some of the middle-aged Israelis wake up and rmember that horrible aroma before they give away the farm to idiots like Albright and Clinton.

According to US friends visiting there, any politico trying to give away the Golans would be lynched on the spot. I think they still remember what a close call 1973 was...

There is nothing like regular conflict and violence to focus a nation. America has it easy, and subsequently we have the luxury of exploring recreational violence and crime. I don't wish for war, terrorism, and violence- far from it- but it tends to be sobering.

Oleg:

I glad to hear that Barak has backed off of his position on giving up territory. I am not Jewish but I do admire the Israelis for their reslove and I have two Jewish uncles by marriage. Both of these guys lost relatives in the Holocaust an mentored me at an early age with handguns and rifles-----more so than my father----an ardent hunter. Dad taught me the fine aspects of hunting while these guys impresse upon me the need for our RKBA.

Eric: You're on target. We have had it so good, we have forgotten how cold the weather was in the late 1700's

From what I have read, in 1973 Israeli Army and civilians had no more than 20 miles of ground to spare before the the forces from the Syrian front could return and help against Egyptian advance. That narrow victory had cost them dearly.

Now remember that Golans are about 20 miles wide and overlook Israel putting much of it within range of Syrian 152mm cannon. Oops!

Right now Golans are thinly settled by Russian immigrant farmers. However, I think I will see Jerusalem partitioned before the Golan buffer zone gets given away. AFIAK, Rabin got what was coming to him on this issue (wrong method but he is not someone I'd weep over no matter what CNN claims about his peace-making prowess).
