ISO new pocket gun

I've used a *&* mod 60 forever. For whatever reason, I suddenly want something thinner, more compact and at least as efficient. What are my choices in 9mm and 45 acp? I'm thinking Glock 26, 30 or 36, Beretta mini Cougar 9mm or 45, ultra compact 1911, as an extreme darkhorse a compact usp in 9mm or 45, or just keep what works and keep using my mod 60. What is the board's consensus opinion?

Well, I don't know how much a model 60 weighs, but Have you glanced at the Kahr MK9? Smallest (but certainly not lightest) non-mousegun caliber available.

<Personal opinion> I think the MK would be a perfect transition from a revolver, as the trigger is quite similar to a DA wheelgun </personal opinion>

The steel Kahrs are super reliable, super small, and you'd get 6+1 (7+1 extended mag included) of 9mm. Rated for +P too if that's your thing.

get the g26

from the first shot i got 2 inch groups at 15 yards and it kept on doing it for 200 rnds . now every time i go to the range it does the same thing and it gets boring chewing 2-3 inch holes in the target. neat gun

If your leaning to larger take a look at the Kahr MK 40.

If you want small, light and thin take a look at a Colt pocket nine. About 15 oz, DAO, restrike capability and very reliable.

I understand that kahr is coming out with a PK9 and a PK 40 which are the polymer frames with the short (MK) grip. That would put the PK 9 in at under 15 oz. Might be worth the weight.

The Kahr MK 40 is heavy, but the round is so powerful that if the pistol were any lighter you would have to have very strong wrists to shoot it without pain.

I suggest you look into the Kel-tec P11. It's hideous, you may see lots of machine marks, and the trigger could be better, but theyre reliable, super-light, and with the belt clip the most concealable 9 out there. I've owned some good nines including a kahr k9 and HKp7. The hk was too heavy for carry imo.

The kahr is a great gun - fantastic trigger. I'd probably buy an MK9, but I live in commie Mass and new ones are llegal. It's a bit on the heavy side though. Kahr makes lighter plastic guns now too. Check out that keltec though (belt clip strongly recommended).

Well, if you got patience, the Kahr MP9 is supposed to be out in the second half of 2002. That's polymer version of the MK9. Less than 15 ounces. If it's like the P9, it'll be one sweet, perfect pocket gun.

The pmk-9 will be sweet when it comes out,
But my choice is the glock mod.26 in a galco pocket holster.
concealment is good in dockers type pants, shorts or top opening pocket jeans like wranglers.
11rds of 9mm in the glock weighs about the same as the S&W mod 60 w/5rds. (give or take 1oz orso)
If you like the glock system the mod 26 or 27 great ccw weopons. ;)

I'm leaning towards the glock 26. I no longer have the 40 *&* in my collection. The poly kahr sounds intriguing...but 2002? I want something NOW!!!

Hey, I don't blame you for wanting something NOW!!!

The G26/27 is one great gun, holding a full 10/9 rounds, but for me, it was too FAT!

I know it's your call, and since you've carried a revolver all this time, the extra width on the Glock will still be 1/2" slimmer than your wheel, but...

Take a look at the Kahr P9 and P40 along with the Covert models before you decide. They are all polymer framed, and already available from Kahr. They're just not as small as the "MK" line. The slide length of the Kahr P's is the same as the Glock 26/27's.
On the Covert, the grip length is the same as the Mini-Glocks, and on the standard "P" models, the grip is about the same length as the Glocks with the Pearce mag extension.

Where's the bonus? Weight and thickness. The Polymer Kahr is still less than an inch wide, and weighs around 16 - 17 oz.

Where's the drawback? Less rounds. 6/5 +1 with the 9/40 Covert and short mags, or 7/6 with the 9/40 "P" series, or the Covert with the extended mag (included).

Glock or Kahr... either of those pistols will SERVE YOU WELL!

Your pockets would have to be pretty big to put a Glock in it, but I know a guy that carries a 3" N-frame in his pocket. Then again Big John weighs over 400 pounds. For light weight I like the 342, but that is still a .38. Have you considered a 940? That is a 9mm. I use one when wearing heavier fabric pants. I have an MK9 that I use primarily in an ankle holster though it does work in a pocket as well. I too am waiting for the MP9. You might check out the P9 and P40 Coverts, both have the standard slide and barrel, but use the shorter grip and are available now. You would need a full deep pocket, it should work for you.

It's very difficult to wait...

..but I'm waiting for the MP9 too. I wish Kahr had made that one first. Obviously, Kahr wants a big finish. The people with all those nice little MK9's will jump at the same pistol that weighs 7 or 8 ounces less. Sigh...2002, eh? I can wait. It's hard, but I can wait.

I believe the easiest to conceal is the Kel-Tec P-11. Smallest and lightest. And least expensive. I own one and like it. Have fired the baby-Glock: it has a nicer trigger and is slightly larger/heavier. No experience with the Kahr.

Ky Rifle, I think that we will see the MP9 introduced at the SHOT Show in Feb next year, only 5 months to wait. You know I will hit that booth first day and get pictures up on my SHOT Show reports web site just like this year. I want the MP9 as a pocket gun so I can still have the MK9 on my ankle. One will NOT replace the other for me.

My thinking exactly! I've decided that I want both. Nothing wrong with that. After all, they ARE two different pistols!
Can you please tell me a little about that trigger mod? I think it's called "Elite 98" or something like that. I just went to the shop I deal with last week and they had a really neat MK9. (Felt great in my hand!) However the shop owner told me that it did not have the Elite (?) trigger.

The Elite trigger has a lighter and smoother feel. It is my understanding that it also has a shorter 'throw' by about 1/8". My MK9 has had a trigger job done and it feels every bit as smooth as an Elite if not slicker so I feel no need to change. The Elite trigger parts can be retro fitted to a non-Elite gun and I had heard that the parts were around $80, but recently I read a thread that stated the parts were around $20. At $20 it might be a cost effective upgrade.
